I know it’s usable because [name_f]Demi[/name_f] Lovato (born [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]) wears it well, but do you like it? What middle names would you pair with it? It’s the feminine form of [name_m]Demetrius[/name_m], which means “follower of [name_u]Demeter[/name_u]”, the goddess of fertility.
Anyway, the name was only in the top 1000 from 1964 to 1993, and the highest its reached was 479 in 1974. It hasn’t been in it since. Popularity doesn’t bother me (to a certain extent), but I thought I’d put that in anyway.
When I first saw the name, I thought it said dementia. I then think of metrics. Would these two be a problem? Would a teacher accidentally read her name out as ‘dementia’ instead of [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]? Overall thoughts?
I’m not too fond of the name. If I was called by the nickname [name_f]Demi[/name_f], I’d rather be named [name_u]Dema[/name_u], simply [name_f]Demi[/name_f], [name_f]Demelza[/name_f], or even [name_u]Democracy[/name_u].
I feel like [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]'s familiar enough that I wouldn’t see “dementia”? [name_f]Demi[/name_f]'s cute, and [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]'s quite elegant, although I’m not too fond of the mythology ties. As a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I just feel odd taking inspiration from a religion that I do not believe in, especially when I believe so strongly in Christianity. As for metrics, it’s probably because I’m in the US, but I don’t really see “metrics” at all, but I’m not sure that’s too bad. I think it’s easily overlooked.
I think it’s definitely usable. I have know a couple of young men named [name_m]Demetrius[/name_m] who went by Meechi, so that’s another possible nickname.
