Describe your vibe :)

How would you describe your naming style (you can go for more than one if like me yours changes every week)? Could you also list some of your favourite names for reference?

[name_m]Not[/name_m] that long ago I described my style as ‘Telegraph-in-fairyland’ as in, names that sound like they belong in the slightly batty posh birth announcements in the Telegraph newspaper, but with a healthy dose of mystical magical names from mythology, folklore, and fantasy.

I would describe my naming style as ‘celtic coastal’, imagine the wild atlantic way meets south-western australia. As someone who’s been fortunate enough to live in three different continents [name_f][/name_f]- for significant moments in my life [name_f][/name_f]- it’s important to me, to keep the magic alive from those experiences, and what better way than in my children’s names!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Western[/name_m] [name_m]Australia[/name_m] is specifically it’s own kind of magic, the laid-back lifestyle offering work/life balance, the native flora and fauna which are absolutely stunning. WA is an overlooked and un-sung gem, sometimes that makes me sad because it truly doesn’t receive the love it deserves, but then I just feel so incredibly lucky to have called it home for almost 10 years.

[name_f][/name_f]

Obviously Irish/Scottish/Welsh (Celtic/Gaelic) names are loved the world over, they’re some of the most popular in the world, but most of the traditional spellings have been so anglicised, it’s so disheartening to see. I’m hoping my wife will allow me to spell at least one name the traditional way.

I would say my style leans cosy & classic [name_m]Central[/name_m] and Eastern European, with a hint of whimsy! I mainly like names that feel chic and international, but also names that feel like you took them out of a classic foreign novel or a local folk tale. Think half museum visits and cobbled old town streets and hand-knit sweaters, and half embroidered blouses, wild dark mountains and fanciful childhood tales.

I would say something like ‘dreamy [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] Quimby’ for my style… like the personality of an imaginative little kid: lively, gentle, a bit of whimsy. Think like wishes on stars and dandelions, rollerskating in the park, and a colorful reading nook (with [name_m]Roald[/name_m] [name_m]Dahl[/name_m], [name_m]The[/name_m] Penderwicks[name_f][/name_f], and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] of course!) I have a lot of nickname names or ‘smiley’ names (-ee sound) and a lot of my favorites come from children’s books too. :love_letter:

Here are the combos from my current UC, because I just redid it a few days ago and I think it captures my style pretty well!

Ecclesiastical adventurer, maybe? [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] girls’ names feel like crumbly European cathedrals; my boys names feel like traipsing through [name_f]Alaska[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] At least for me. [name_f][/name_f] Lots of European names, very eclectic, but bits of adventure and religious aspects for both genders.
