Desdemona

I was looking on instagram the other day and I saw a woman with her twin daughters named [name]Desdemona[/name] and Lexington. She called them [name]Desi[/name] and [name]Lexi[/name].
I think [name]Desdemona[/name] is a gorgeous and unique name and I don’t really care about the tragic character at [name]Shakespeare[/name].

What do you think?
It’s usable?

I like the [name]Shakespeare[/name] character, but [name]Desdemona[/name] means misery (the Greek word dusdaimonia). Some say it means of the devil, but that’s not really true even though it does kind of sound like it. Nope, I don’t think it’s usable.

I agree with otillie. I would never use the name with such meaning and image although I love “[name]Othello[/name]”. I think not all the names from classic novels and myths are usable.

I didn’t know about the meaning!
Now is not usable at all! I think I will stay with other [name]Shakespeare[/name] names!

Yeah, there are a lot of other lovely Shakespearean names: think [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Viola[/name]…

i know @mclevine [name]Rosalind[/name] and cordelia are gorgeous names:)

[name]Desdemona[/name] is beautiful and honestly I don’t think it’s any more difficult than [name]Ophelia[/name] (with the negative [name]Shakespeare[/name] stigma that is.)
But [name]Desdemona[/name] does have a more difficult meaning to battle with as well.
It’s not unusable I’d just be very careful to pair it with a very happy, very positive first or middle name.
Keep in mind that [name]Mary[/name] means bitter which I’d find equally difficult but doesn’t stop it and it’s variations from continuously being very popular.

Thanks @Lexiem

I hope [name]Ophelia[/name] is at least usable because it’s my favorite [name]Shakespeare[/name] name!

Yeah, [name]Desdemona[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [name]Letitia[/name] for example could work. Or better yet, [name]Letitia[/name] [name]Desdemona[/name] [name]Joy[/name].

[name]Ottilie[/name], [name]Letitia[/name] is gorgeous:) I am second both your suggestions, they balance [name]Desdemona[/name] out very well.

Thanks @[name]Ottilie[/name] I really like [name]Letitia[/name] [name]Desdemona[/name] [name]Joy[/name] but for me [name]Letitia[/name] isn’t my favorite name

I would never use a name with “demon” right in the middle of it!

I think [name]Desdemona[/name] sounds like a name that would have been on the “Bewitched” TV show from the 60’s.
