Dexter or Deklan?

We already have a son – [name]Jaxen[/name] so we are wondering what to name the next one … Hubby has come up with [name]Dexter[/name] [name]William[/name], though for some unknown reason I’ve never loved [name]Dexter[/name] ( he wanted to name our 1st [name]Dexter[/name] and we sided on [name]Jaxen[/name]). Though I like [name]Dex[/name]. I on the other hand came up with [name]Declan[/name]…though because I don’t want him called De-clan or [name]Dee[/name]-clan we’re thinking of changing the spelling to Deklan. (Deck-lan). Also, I don’t like the look of ‘Clan’.

I am OK with [name]William[/name]…so we’d probably use [name]William[/name] as a mn no matter what.

So not sure if go with [name]Dexter[/name] though I don’t love the name or [name]Declan[/name] and change the spelling ? PS – I realize ppl have strong feelings about changing the spellings of names -esp with [name]Declan[/name]. Though we changed [name]Jackson[/name] to [name]Jaxen[/name] for our 1st boy …so this next boy wouldn’t be alone in having a weird spelling / variant name…

Looking for honest opinions, including negative feedback on changing spellings (cause I know I’m gonna get it ;P) Our last name is Steeves. (which is very common where we are at…)

I really like [name]Dexter[/name] a lot with [name]Jaxen[/name]. I love that they both have the letter “x” in them. But if you don’t love it then it’s probably not the name for you. I’m not a fan of invented spellings in general, but I don’t think changing [name]Declan[/name] to Deklan will really do much to help the pronunciation. People might still pronounce it De-klan or [name]Dee[/name]-klan. And if you don’t like the appearance of the word Clan you should probably keep in mind that the “KKK” spelled it “Klan”, so if anything I think the association is stronger with the Deklan spelling. The only way to really get around that is to spell it Decklan, which looks odd to me, but it might work for you. Some names you might like:

The name [name]Dexter[/name] reminds me of the serial killer on the TV show “[name]Dexter[/name]” so it’s not one of my favourites. I am not a fan of [name]William[/name] either (too common). If you are seriously considering naming your son [name]Declan[/name], please spell it the correct way. If not, your son may have to spend the rest of his life correcting people and telling everyone how to spell his name!!! I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. My dog is named [name]Dexter[/name] so I’m a bit biased. I love the name for a human as well. It is spunky and fun, and fits perfectly with [name]Jaxen[/name].
[name]Declan[/name] is great with [name]Jaxen[/name] too. However, I dont see te need to even change the spelling. I cant imagine [name]Declan[/name] ever being misspronounced as it is completly phonetic and becoming more popular. I say stick with the traditional [name]Declan[/name] if you want to use the name, Deklan just looks wrong too me. [name]Jaxen[/name] seems like a common spelling, were as Deklan just seems like a miss spelling.

[name]Dexter[/name] [name]William[/name] is so handsome!
