I keep teetering back and forth with [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. On one hand, I love it, and how geeky-vintage it sounds, without being too much. However, there are some things holding me back;
-
The serial killer - I’ve never once watched the show [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], but I know it was quite popular. Is the connection too strong to the name still?
-
The redheaded scientist child - [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s Laboratory was my favourite cartoon growing up, and I do still love to watch it from time to time. Is that also too tied to the name?
I really like it, but I feel like, between the two programmes, it might be too connected to different things that aren’t overly positive.
Is [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] too tied to the characters, or is it ok to use?
I really like the name [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. I’ve seen the show but I can easily separate the name from the show. I never watched [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s Laboratory but I knew about the cartoon. I never would have thought of it. Neither the show or the cartoon would keep me from using the name.
I am having the exact same issues! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name, but my whole family is a huge fan of [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] (the tv show) and I watched [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s Laboratory a lot growing up. I’m interested in hearing people’s opinions. I have it on my long list, but I doubt I would ever use it. Like you said, it’s really cool and geeky at the same time. I love it.
I watched neither, so I don’t associate [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] with anything. I think it is a nice name but I have never been a fan of names with X, so it is not my favorite.
I have never heard of either character so you’re probably fine if you move to [name_f]England[/name_f]!
Your child’s peers will probably have no idea what either of those shows are, if that helps! I like the name and think the diminutive [name_m]Dex[/name_m] is great too.
I’m definitely hoping to!
Thanks everyone, I’m glad they aren’t as strong as I thought they’d be
I’ve watched both shows, but don’t overly associated with either. I also know 2 little boys named [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], so that’s helps disassociate it from the characters.
I love the name [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. But again with the associations. I personally wouldn’t care about the associations. It’s not like your son, [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] will grow up to be a serial killer or a mad child scientist
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] had been my #1 favorite for years. Then came the crushing day that my friend told me about [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], the serial killer. It totally ruined it for me. I had never seen the show but the thought that others had and would associate a baby with a serial killer was horrifying.
Recently though [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] has started making it’s way back up my list. I rarely hear anything about the show anymore (and with ties to the entertainment industry, that’s saying something). Maybe by the time I’m ready for baby #2, the show will be completely forgotten.
We had [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] in the top 5. Until I did a little research on the show [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] (I haven’t watched either show). [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], the show, is based in [name_f]Miami[/name_f], we live in FL. I felt that it might be too much. I love [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] and the nickname [name_m]Dex[/name_m].
