Ok so DH has now decided he loves the name [name]Lincoln[/name]… for a first name… for a girl. And surprisingly I kinda like it. Opinions?
The only [name]Lincoln[/name] I know is a male cat, which admittedly skews how i hear the name. I feel like it would be like [name]Patrick[/name] for a girl. I wouldn’t do it. But if you like if, it’s your call.
I don’t see why not… I mean there’s already Reagans and [name]Kennedy[/name]'s.
I could actually see it on a girl. A tall blond athletic girl.
I don’t like it at all, sorry. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name], but I can’t even conceive it on a girl. It just sounds so masculine to me, especially with the association of [name]Abraham[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name].
I like [name]Larkin[/name] on a girl, but I can’t say that I’m really a fan of [name]Lincoln[/name]. It’s not awful, just not really to my personal taste.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name] on a boy, don’t see it on a girl though. I like surnames/unisex names in the middle spot for girls, but I don’t even see [name]Lincoln[/name] doing well there.
Oh dear, not another name going over to the dark side!
[name]Lincoln[/name] is all boy, nothing feminine about it, sorry. Are you going to nickname her [name]Linc[/name]/[name]Link[/name] too?
[name]Larkin[/name] is a much better option.
When gauging a name for a child, I always first put myself in the kids shoes. Would I appreciate or choose the name for myself?
As a child I always envied those girls whom had very pretty and clearly feminine names, so [name]Lincoln[/name] would have been a definite no for me as a little girl. As an adult I really like sophisticated and classy names and some unisex names but never masculine names. I would never choose [name]Lincoln[/name] as a name, perhaps [name]Taylor[/name]. [name]Lincoln[/name] to me is like [name]Trevor[/name] or [name]Lloyd[/name], they just don’t work well for a girl or a women.
At the end of the day it is still your choice though.
I’m not really a fan of [name]Lincoln[/name] for either gender. It’s way too [name]Abraham[/name] in my mind.
I do see the appeal of the initial [name]Lin[/name]- sound, though. What about the similar-sounding [name]Linden[/name] instead?
It’s not my favorite type but I personally like masculine/unisex names on girls but I don’t really care for [name]Lincoln[/name] at all sorry. Whether it’s on a boy or a girl. I think it’s perfectly usable on a girl though. I don’t like [name]Lincoln[/name] but love the nickname/name [name]Link[/name]!
I do not find at attractive for a girl in any way, shape or form.
I agree that [name]Lincoln[/name] is too masculine and silly on a girl - almost like you are trying too hard to be unique. What about [name]Linden[/name]?
Alternatives: [name]Lark[/name], [name]Lucasta[/name], Lachlanne, [name]Lyric[/name], [name]Lake[/name], Lenka, [name]Lilac[/name], [name]London[/name], Lumen, [name]Lynwen[/name], Lilwen.
For the nickname [name]Linc[/name] / [name]Link[/name], what about:
[name]Linden[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Linnea[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Linnea[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Linnet[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Lynne[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
Thanks for the feedback. I think I too have decided it just won’t work!
What makes [name]Linden[/name] any more a girl’s name than [name]Lincoln[/name]? I don’t get that. [name]Linden[/name]/[name]Lyndon[/name]'s historically male too.
I like [name]Linden[/name] on a boy and [name]Lincoln[/name] on nobody, so maybe I’m weird but I don’t get why in trying to “save” [name]Lincoln[/name] for the boys, [name]Linden[/name] would be good “going to the girls”?
Whether on the backs of names Britlinn/[name]Katelynn[/name]/Avalynn or on the front, I find the whole [name]Lin[/name]/[name]Lyn[/name] trend for girls a bit tired.
I did like PP’s suggestions of [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Lilac[/name]. I’m not all grumpy, I swear.
[name]Linden[/name], like [name]Rowan[/name], is also a nature name, so it’s slightly less offensive, lol.
hmmm I kinda like lilac…
[name]Lilac[/name] would be stunning!
[name]Lilac[/name] is gorgeous.
