Lately I’ve been really taken with [name_f]Dia[/name_f], and seriously considering it. I feel like, with my style, it works better as a nn for something a little bit longer, though–so far I’m considering [name_f]Adia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (I more like the tie to the first European [name_m]Christian[/name_m] as opposed to spoiled-and-ridiculous [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m]). Are there any other pretty -dia names out there? WDYT of [name_f]Dia[/name_f] (either as a full name or nn?), and what would you expect her to be like?
Ooh, [name_f]Dia[/name_f] is so charming and sweet! I also love [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Sia[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f], and [name_f]Via[/name_f]… so
I love the spunk of these types of names. For full names, [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Adia[/name_f] are both wonderful! Also ~
It could also be nickname for [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! I love the NN [name_f]Dia[/name_f] but I think it could definitely work as a spunky full name. I had [name_f]Fia[/name_f] on my list for a long time and [name_f]Dia[/name_f] is just as cute!
@dream.create - thank you! [name_f]Arcadia[/name_f], I feel, should interest me, because I super admire [name_u]Joan[/name_u] of [name_m]Arc[/name_m], but I’ve loved [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] for forever! I’d never thought of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dia[/name_f], but it obviously works. I just don’t know if I’d ever want to use a nn for it–I love saying [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]! [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]'s another one I have loved for a long time, too, although I’m not as excited about it now as I was several years ago. It’s a beautiful name, though!
@steampunkleo - thank you! Unfortunately, I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Diana[/name_f]; otherwise, it’d be brilliant! And I agree that it could work super well on its own… I sort of feel like it sticks out a bit from my usual favorites ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Arianne[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], etc.)–it almost seems too short and sweet.
I was also thinking about [name_f]India[/name_f], which I like, because it has ties to my brother’s, sister’s, dad’s, and grandfather’s military service, but I’m afraid most people wouldn’t see that? Plus, I think I can see me with a [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] or an [name_f]Adia[/name_f] easier than an [name_f]India[/name_f]. I also thought of [name_f]Damiana[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dia[/name_f], but I’m not a HUUUUUGEE fan lol.
This made me smile:) I always think of the latter, you know, but I agree that the former is a pretty good association and reason to use the name. I think I would vote [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] over [name_f]Adia[/name_f]. [name_f]Adia[/name_f] just doesn’t have an appealing sound to me (even though I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f]). However, I adore [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. That would be my favorite way to get to [name_f]Dia[/name_f].
[name_f]Dia[/name_f] is cute. =] I quite like the previous suggestion of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] to get to [name_f]Dia[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], as well. My niece’s name is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], so I don’t think of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m]. haha The first name that popped into my head to get to [name_f]Dia[/name_f] was [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], actually. [name_f]Dia[/name_f] isn’t directly in the name, but the sounds are.
Thanks, everyone! [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] would be a great option, if not for the fact that I’m just not really a huge fan. [name_f]Diamanta[/name_f] would easily work, although, again, it’s really not my style at all.
Thanks for thinking of me, though, and offering up the suggestions!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Dia[/name_f] as a nickname and as a full name. I love short, breezy names like [name_f]Bria[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f]…
Like you, I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is too wonderful as is to shorten. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] also comes to mind, but again, why shorten? My personal pick would be [name_f]Acadia[/name_f].
I don’t know that these are your style at all, but [name_f]Demetria[/name_f], Davinia, [name_f]Delphia[/name_f] and [name_f]Deanna[/name_f] could work too. Or maybe a name that ends in the -dee sound, like [name_f]Melody[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]? (Especially if the middle name started with A.)
Also, I see that [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] is in your signature as a middle — I think that could shorten to [name_f]Dia[/name_f] too.
My pick was [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], and pretty much everything I came up with has already been mentioned.
A few more, if you like them
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daria[/name_f]
I think any name starting with D and ending with -a could work. I also had the idea of a previous poster about names that end in -dee sound. What about [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]?
No suggestions on what [name_f]Dia[/name_f] can be a nn for as the other berries have given so many great ideas. However, I will let you know my opinion of the name [name_f]Dia[/name_f]. I associate it with being happy and cheerful. I actually know two [name_f]Dia[/name_f]'s, a woman in her early fifties who loves high heeled shoes and has so much energy she gives kids a run for their money. Also I know an almost two year old with the name.
@lunazola - no, I actually love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]! She’s been a favorite for a while, but I’ve been having trouble finding a MN for her, and I just discovered [name_f]Adia[/name_f], too, so I just figured I’d see what else was out there. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]'s sort of my back-up right now, and will probably make it onto my top 20 as I’m narrowing down my list, anyhow, regardless of [name_f]Dia[/name_f]. I’m just on the look out for something I like more (or that might pair up easier, since I’m not sure I’ve found a single [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] combo that I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] and feels like it sings).
@mamaenzi - I was thinking of [name_f]Delia[/name_f], too, but it almost seems like a nn to begin with (for [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], if not others?), so [name_f]Delia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dia[/name_f] sort of seems pointless? I don’t know. I do like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] quite a bit, though! If I didn’t already have [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]” on my list, I might consider [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] “[name_f]Dia[/name_f]”, too. haha. I have really liked [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] for years. It almost feels like the classic [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], in a way, but a bit more modern and unusual.
I’d love to hear any other ideas anyone might have!
