Hey! What do you think of the name Diana? What kind of person springs to mind? And do you think Diana can never be paired with a sibling named Charlotte or Lily?
Also, what nicknames do you think Diana can wear other than Di? This is my biggest question!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! Sweet, stylish, and elegant but simultaneously youthful and fun. I can picture [name_f]Diana[/name_f] on any personality type, but if I had to choose a specific image I primarily picture either a sweet, introverted, creative girl or a fiery, outgoing, spirited girl. I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] works totally fine with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (I’m not sure what the connection is here, actually) and I wouldn’t be surprised by [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] together, though the British royals might come to mind, I wouldn’t assume it was intentional.
Other than [name_f]Di[/name_f], I would say [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Didi[/name_f], [name_u]Dani[/name_u], or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] would be the most obvious nicknames.
I think of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u], [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_m]Ross[/name_m], [name_f]Lady[/name_f] [name_f]Di[/name_f] and the goddess [name_f]Diana[/name_f], roughly in that order. The name feels regal and serious to me. It’s not my style at all, but I do think it’s got interesting history and I’d like to see it used more.
I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] seems like a good match for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (though [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a little heavy on the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] influence).
I would probably call a little [name_f]Diana[/name_f] “Dee.” [name_f]Annie[/name_f] also works, but it’s more of a stretch. I like the idea of Moony as a play on the meaning for a pet name.
I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is timeless and “adult”. It wears well on any age, but some names just sound more serious and mature from the get-go, and [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is one of them. To me, this is a positive trait.
I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] can certainly be paired with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as sisters. Why ever not? They belong to the same style categories, even if [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are more currently popular.
In the movie “Philadelphia Story”, [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] Hepburn’s character [name_u]Tracy[/name_u] has a younger sister named [name_f]Diana[/name_f], who goes by [name_f]Dinah[/name_f]. She has a line explaining her name (this may not be verbatim because I’m not looking it up): “My name was [name_f]Diana[/name_f] but my sister changed it.” It’s supposed to speak to the character of [name_u]Tracy[/name_u] more than [name_f]Dinah[/name_f], but it’s pretty charming and it made me love the name [name_f]Dinah[/name_f]. So. That’s definitely a less-conventional nickname option. You could spell it [name_f]Dina[/name_f], but I think it would be pronounced “Deena” most of the time that way.
Otherwise, trim [name_f]Ana[/name_f] could be a lovely nickname.
Thank you! I was worried about [name_f]Lily[/name_f] because of the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Family now having two Lilibets and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] being an expected nn for [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]. I love the imagery you provided
Annie’s one of my fav nns for [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! I really like [name_u]Dani[/name_u] too — it makes me think of Max’s little sister from Hocus Pocus!
I adore [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] Hepburn, so you sold me right there! I hadn’t remembered that specific scene from [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u] [name_u]Story[/name_u], but what a splendid story to share
Also, I agree that [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a strong and mature name! [name_f]Diana[/name_f] might be problematic with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] because they’re all names associated with the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Family, with [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] acting as a longer form for [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
[name_f]Ana[/name_f] and [name_f]Dina[/name_f] are utterly gorgeous! Thank you for your great suggestions
I really think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is ready to come back with a lot of the more adult feeling names.
I think of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables mostly honestly but there are a lot of very noteworthy Dianas that will come to peoples minds. [name_f]Deanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Dinah[/name_f] are both good alternatives i think if it doesnt feel quite right for you but i really think it is usable. I dont really like [name_f]Di[/name_f] as a nn personally but i think Dan/Dani would be really sweet and fun.
I also think of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] biggest association is actually [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_m]Rigg[/name_m], but she hasn’t been mentioned yet, so there are a lot of famous Dianas.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] would probably make more sense! I’m not wild about [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], but it is more royal sounding.
[name_f]Di[/name_f] is definitely the most inevitable nn for [name_f]Diana[/name_f], so I’ll have to keep that in mind!
I love Diana! I think it works very well with Lily and Charlotte. I would use Diana as an honor for Dianne, but I think it is a beautiful name even if you aren’t using it as an honor.
My favorite nickname for Diana is Nan, but I also like Anne, Anna, Annie, Dani, Dan (I think a gender swapped nickname is so fun and unexpected), Nancy
I love the name [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! she also happens to be one of my closest friends! naturally, a person like her would spring to mind: very sweet and unique with a quirky personality, very musical, and very kind hearted!
I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is one of those names that can go with many other names, such as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]!
I’ve heard my friend [name_f]Diana[/name_f] go by the nickname [name_f]Dee[/name_f] before! I think [name_f]Ana[/name_f] could also be a potential nickname!
I first thought of the late princess, and then of wonder woman. I can safely say I have the most positive associations when it comes to this name. I think it pairs well with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I adore [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! One of my all time favs! It makes me think of both the princess and the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess. Like other people have said, I think it can pair with most names- from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] all the way to [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f].
i love diana so much! it reminds me of the roman goddess, wonder woman, and the princess, all of which are wonderful associations. similarity, i love variants diantha and dianthe—something about the first two syllables just had such a sharp yet romantic sound that i love. it’s such a versatile name too, that ages very well; it’s a name i could see on someone four or one hundred and four!
with charlotte and lily, it may be a little royal, though with lily, i don’t think the average american would make a connection.
i can’t think of any nicknames besides the ones mentioned, though i’m a sucker for simple di and playful moony. something derived from artemis could work, seeing how diana is the artemis of roman mythology—artie or missy perhaps?
Yes, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] evokes the most fantastic imagery! [name_f]Diantha[/name_f] and [name_f]Dianthe[/name_f] are lovely as well.
There is just such an ethereal, moonlit quality to [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. Darkly romantic and glittering, it has unmistakable flair due to its intricate, yet flowing sound! “Sharp, yet romantic” describes it perfectly.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Di[/name_f] is too old ladyish or too much like “die?” Also, Moony is a divine nickname!
