Dirk has been on my lifelong name list since seeing the poster of the basketball player Dirk Nowitzki in my brother’s bedroom when I was a kid
I was just searching it and saw the variation Dierks. As in Dierks Bentley the country singer if you’ve heard of him!
I understand Dirk is a pretty harsh sound and probably not for everyone. But if you had to choose, which one… Dirk or Dierks? And why? Thank you😁
Edit: adding “Dirks” as an option!
I prefer [name_m]Dirk[/name_m]! Actually a really spunky name. The E in Dierks confuses the pronunciation a little for me.

There also is a Dirks version!! Does that change anything?
I’d say [name_m]Dirk[/name_m] rather like durk, whereas Dierks looks like deerks (may only be me!) so Dirks does influence how I’d say it!

Super interesting! Thank you so much! I think I prefer the Dierks spelling but if it’s gonna confuse people I definitely wouldn’t use it.
Not for me personally. I have to admit, my first thought was the offensive term “durka durka” from the movie Team [name_u]America[/name_u] that was popular about fifteen years ago. However, I don’t know if today’s kids know that term or have even heard of the movie.
I would probably pick Dierks over [name_m]Dirk[/name_m].

I quite like [name_m]Dirk[/name_m]. And [name_m]Kirk[/name_m]. But not Dierks.

I’m a Dierks [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] fan so I prefer Dierks. [name_m]Dirk[/name_m] is harsh and extremely abrupt to me.

I prefer Dierks! Visually I do like [name_m]Dirk[/name_m] but sound-wise Dierks feels gentler and less aggressive. I’m also a Dierks [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] fan so that helps.

Is “Dirks” too weird?
I prefer [name_m]Dirk[/name_m], it’s a nice name! Dierks or Dirks looks more like a surname to me.
