[name]Do[/name] any of these names fit nicely in a sibling set with our daughter [name]Ciara[/name]? Let me know what you think of them (without being too brutal please, haha) and suggestions are welcome! [name]Ciara[/name] is pronounced as Key-ar-ah. Thank you
[name]Ciara[/name] is a very pretty Celtic name that is pronounced ākeer-uhā (eg. [name]Keira[/name] is another spelling). You have a lot of names with an āarā sound and unisex/boyish styles so I would eliminate them. I like these names with [name]Ciara[/name].
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Bronwen[/name] - this is the FEMALE Welsh spelling. [name]Bronwyn[/name] is the [name]MALE[/name] version.
[name]Rhiannon[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
our daughter is 4 years old, and has always been key-ar-ah, and my husband is Irish, and pronounces it key-ar-ah. Also, Iām half Welsh, and lived in [name]Wales[/name] for about 6 years, and I have NEVER met a male [name]Bronwyn[/name], I knew 5 [name]Bronwyn[/name]'s in [name]Wales[/name], all were female. Altogether, I know about 8 named [name]Bronwyn[/name], all are girls.
[name]Bronwyn[/name] is a variant of [name]Bronwen[/name], itās not actually a masculine name, itās just the suffix. Like [name]Gwendolyn[/name].
I like [name]Bronwyn[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Merida[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name] with [name]Ciara[/name]. [name]Lovely[/name] name, by the way (and absolutely a legitimate pronunciation).
Sorry, [name]Mischa[/name] is right about this. Think about [name]Ciaran[/name]. Itās ākeer-unā and not ākey-[name]AH[/name]-runā isnāt it, so [name]Ciara[/name] should be the same but without an ānā. [name]Chiara[/name], the Italian name on the other hand, is ākey-ah-raā* like youāre pronouncing it.
Anyway, since thatās how you say it I like [name]Verity[/name] the best. Iād avoid anything that ends in āaā incase it sounds too matchy with [name]Ciara[/name].
Thank you! haha, that is the first time anyoneās ever corrected me on my daughterās name, but, when looking it up, my husband and I doubled checked on an Irish website, and the Gaelic way is [name]Ciara[/name], [name]Keira[/name] is itās own name, and the [name]Bronwyn[/name] thing, I think that Wen/[name]Wyn[/name] rule is from Medieval Times, Iāve never met a boy named [name]Bronwyn[/name], and canāt imagine why anyone would use that spelling for a little boy in this day in age to be honest!
Yes it is, haha we looked it up before we named her officially, and found quite a few Gaelic sites saying that Key-ar-ah was the pronunciation, also, my daughter is 4 years old, and I donāt particularly appreciate being told that Iām calling my daughter the āwrongā name, she is my daughter after all, and has been Key-ar-ah since I was 6 months pregnant.
Itās not the original pronunciation (that one is [name]KEER[/name]-ah) but names develop when they move in time and crosses boarders, and to say [name]Ciara[/name] like kee-ah-rah is fine. (Not intending to make it sound like Iām the Pronunciation Policeā¦)
But⦠[name]Frank[/name] McCourt is Irish and theyāre Irish names⦠so⦠I donāt really know what else I can say. Good luck on your name search anyway
Once again, Iād like to point out that my daughter is 4 years old, and sheās grown up with key-ar-ah, do not appreciate you telling me my daughterās name is wrong, thatās not even what was being asked here. Americans seem to say it as See-ar-ah, going to tell them that theyāre saying it wrong as well?
[name]Just[/name] wanted to jump in on this thread. The only (Irish ) [name]Ciara[/name] I know is pronounced (Key-ar-rah) and as for the whole [name]Bronwen[/name] / [name]Bronwyn[/name] thing. Yes, the wyn /wen this is a male/ female distinction, but I am Welsh and have never met a [name]Bronwen[/name], but lots of Bronwyns- none of whom were male. As another poster said, names evolve over time . In earlier times [name]Maria[/name] was pronounced [name]Mary[/name]-ah
and if were sticklers for male/female word rules [name]Gwyneth[/name], [name]Gwyneira[/name] and the like would in fact be male names.
No worries. Some people are just rude and donāt think before they hit post. They are more concerned about being right than peopleās feelings , especially when it is something as precious as your daughterās name.
Your girlās name is gorgeous btw.
I like
[name]Merida[/name] - but donāt know if itās too linked to āBraveā
[name]Bronwyn[/name] *

Iāve starred the ones I think match your daughters the most- my favourite probably being [name]Meredith[/name] nn [name]Merry[/name] very. very cute
From your list, these are my favs for a sibset. [name]Lovely[/name] choices! I had to remove a few of my personal favorites simply because I didnāt think they matched as well with [name]Ciara[/name]. Good luck!
[name]Calista[/name]
[name]Malorie[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Larissa[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Josie[/name]
thank you + funny that you say that, our daughter has bright red hair, and her favourite princess is [name]Merida[/name], that was one she came out with, and we both really like it! (which is rare, because heās the one stuck watching all princess movies with [name]Ciara[/name], and heās at the point where, anything to do with a princess, he practically runs away) I have to say, with the exception of [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Rhiannon[/name], youāve got all my absolute favourites off that list! [name]Meredith[/name] nn [name]Merry[/name] is adorable, definitely considering it! thank you!
Iāve personally only ever known Ciara pronounced as Keer-uh, like Keira Knightly pronounces her name, though Iāve only met two by the Ciara spelling. I know a Chiara who pronounces it Key-AR-uh, like you do. And then thereās the American singer Ciara who says it like Sierra which I totally donāt get. I donāt think Key-AR-uh is going to cause her too many problems, yes youāll get people saying it as Keer-uh or even Sierra, or hear Key-AR-ah and want to stick a H in the spelling, but at the end of the day itās a legitimate name, and the spelling of it is beautiful.
Iād stick with something short and sweet for a sister. Names Iāve left off I donāt think work in terms of length or style.
Merida - Too linked to Brave
Martha - I like Ciara and Martha together, but I donāt know if the repeated āarā sound is too close for you.
Vienna -Too much of a place name
Tessa - Lovely
Hadley - Too masculine, Iād think of Ciara and Hadley as sister and brother
Gemma - Lovely
Kiana - too close to Ciara as well, in spelling and pronunciation
Payton - See Hadley
Orla - I believe this is Irish too. I think it would make a nice middle name.
Lydia - Gorgeous
Ainsley - See Hadley
Meredith - An underused beauty.
Josie - Ciara and Josie has something nice about it.
Isla - I find this a bit close
Laura - I just find this dull next to Ciara
Lara - too close to Ciara (key-ar-uh and lar-uhā¦they pretty much rhyme)
