I once had a dream that I had a daughter and a few years later, I had a dream that I had two sons. My daughter had blonde hair, and my sons had tan skin and dark hair. I also once had a dream that I was having a baby shower and straight after finding out the baby was going to be a girl (in my dream), I woke up so I didn’t get to actually “have” that child. I’ve heard that usually when people dream that they are pregnant with a girl, they end up having a boy in real life and vies versa if they have a dream that they are pregnant with a boy.
I sometimes wonder that since I had a dream that I had a girl with blonde hair that maybe that means that if I have children, the first one might be a girl with blonde hair and my next two children might both be boys with tan skin and dark hair like in the other dream? I’ve heard people say that when they had dreams that they physically had a child, it came true and their child was the same gender as in their dream.
Would anyone who has had dreams like this like to share their experience? (E.g. did the child look like and be the same gender that it was in their dream?) I find it really interesting.
when i was pregnant with my daughter, i had many dreams of a baby girl with dark hair and big blue eyes, though i was convinced i was having a boy. her name was [name_f]Adela[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in the two dreams i had heard her name.
fast forward and i did indeed have a baby girl with a full head of dark hair, and we named her [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]
i think souls of our someday babies will come in to visit, maybe help us work through a lesson necessary for their coming, or just to offer a little healing from the other side
I had a dream yesterday that I was being chased by a killer inside a horror video game, so hopefully not What I’m saying is - you can choose to have this dream be something meaningful to you, in the same way that way things like astrology, or superstitions like not opening an umbrella indoors can feel real to those who believe in them. I think it mostly just matters that you don’t feel let down if it doesn’t come true!
I did have dreams where the sex was correct, but recently one where I was having a girl even though I know I am pregnant with a male. With my first, my dreams had her looking very different than how she actually looked/looks. My mother dreamt I would be born with Angela Davis’ afro and a full beard - while I did have a full head of hair, it was straight and I definitely didn’t have a beard.
Dreams represent what we have going on internally at best and sometimes are just random. They aren’t predictive. But if it is fun to think about, have fun with it!
I once had a dream I piloted a tornado into my old middle school. I wouldn’t put much stock into dreams unless it REALLY feels like your brain trying to tell you something you aren’t dealing with. [name_m]Like[/name_m] if you keep having dreams about drowning, you might want to consider why you feel so overwhelmed, etc.
scientifically speaking, we have some pretty robust theories as to where dreams come from and why we dream what we do, none of which rely on anything supernatural. however, I completely understand the appeal of these types of dreams, and enjoy having them myself! it’s a way to explore a potential future, made even better when we might be feeling stuck in a certain phase in life. I don’t see anything wrong with treating these dreams like potential futures, unless of course it becomes obsessive or distracts from your present life

looking at it from a statistical standpoint, I think it makes more sense why dreams sometimes line up with future experiences! for instance, dreaming of a boy vs girl (please don’t mistake that I’m erasing trans and intersex people, just for simplicity sake), there’s a 50/50 chance of randomly dreaming the correct one. similarly with hair color, there’s really only a handful of options: blond, brown, black, red. add into that if you have a partner, and both of you have black hair, you’re probably more likely to dream of a baby who also has black hair.
also, I think it’s important to note that our memories are very malleable. every time you recall a memory, you’re not actually recalling the original event—you’re recalling the last time you recalled that memory. this means that with every recall, slight changes can be made to the memory based on your current thoughts or emotions. someone might recall a dream in which they had a baby girl with blonde hair, then as they recall it over and over, that dream girl starts to look exactly like their irl blonde baby girl.
When I was pregnant with my first my husband had a dream that I gave birth to a baby. This was a typical newborn baby only replace the head with MY full grown adult head. Needless to say that didn’t come true
Idk really. I dreamed about babies a few times, but not when I was actually pregnant. One that I remember was many years ago before I was ready to have kids. I think I saw a girl with dark-ish hair whom I called something that sounded like [name_f]Cherie[/name_f] (Cerise? Cheryl?). I figured it could just be me using the [name_m]French[/name_m] endearment though, and my own hair is dark so I guess that’s why. [name_m]The[/name_m] other time I had B/G twin babies but I couldn’t see them properly.
[name_m]Irl[/name_m] I have one boy with dirty blonde hair that matches his daddy’s. So you can say none of my baby dreamed turned out to be true so far.
As someone who doesn’t dream really (maybe 2x a year, if that?) this is interesting to me, though I tend toward @SparkleNinja18’s scientific explanation. When I do, they’re super weird though.
[name_m]Like[/name_m] I just had my first one (that I recall) this year a few days ago and I was being chased through a maze of sorts by people that were mean to me in high school and I ended up hiding underwater in a pool, almost being dragged to the bottom by an android except like 3 punches took care of him (weak sauce, right?) and then I was somehow at a table outside a cafe having coffee with an author I enjoy.
So actually, maybe it’s better I don’t dream of my future children lol

you actually dream every night! everyone dreams during REM sleep (3-5 dreams per cycle, but some people can have up to 7) but the brain deletes most of your dreams once you wake up. waking up during a dream can increase your chances of remembering the dream.
None of my pregnancy / baby dreams have ever been accurate. My most clear one when pregnant with P was that we had a little redhaired boy… she’s a blondy girl lol! I think it’s a personal choice as to how much or not you read into dreams. I just take them as imagination and nothing more.
I have had very vivid dreams of both our girls while I was pregnant with them, but before finding out the gender. With our younger daughter, I dreamt of a little girl, maybe 3 years old, with long brunette hair, bright blue eyes, rosey lips and cheeks. That is exactly what our little sylvie looks like. I dreamt of both our boys, but I didn’t have vivid enough dreams with them. But with each one, they were before the 20 week scan and each dream was correct. I’m 14 weeks with #5 and just had a dream this week of nursing a blonde baby girl with big rosey cheeks, although I’ve felt like this baby is a boy. So we will see in about 5½ weeks if at least the gender is the same as my dream or my gut feeling!
Oh, I’m aware I have them. I just remember exceptionally few compared to most of my friends I’ve had throughout my life/ my husband. Maybe 2 or so a year. My husband is weekly or more and most of friends at least every couple weeks.
Do you know if there are any brain structure or personality differences in those who recall more or less?
there’s a theory that the brain uses sleep and dreams to process memories and emotions, and that dreams are part of this process (whether a byproduct, a mechanism, or something else, there are more theories about). so people who don’t remember their dreams could just have brains that are more efficient at sorting through necessary and unnecessary information. this would also be helpful in the case of really vivid dreams, which feel so real that people might have a hard time differentiating them from real events (I’ve had plenty of experience with this—I’m on the flip side from you, I have very vivid dreams and can recall having them almost every night).
there’s also a region in the brain (temporoparietal junction) which is where the brain does a lot of its information processing. studies have shown that people with more activity in this region are more likely to remember dreams. as for personality traits, people who are more prone to daydreaming are more likely to remember their dreams than people who are more practical and focused on things outside of themselves. and, since dreams occur during REM sleep, which is the final stage and occurs about 90 minutes after falling asleep, people who don’t get enough sleep or who wake up frequently and get less REM sleep are less likely to remember their dreams.
Maybe this is why I don’t remember my weird dreams once I wake up. I don’t think I’ve ever slept as good as I have during this pregnancy. I just wake up with a vague sense that I had a really odd dream and pass out again.
I had so many weird dreams while I was pregnant. I did dream about having an ultrasound and learning I was having a boy, shortly before we found out the gender in real life. So that was correct. However, I also had dreams where I gave birth to a snake, to triplets, or to a Pokemon card. Pretty sure all my pregnancy dreams stemmed from anxieties about parenting (for instance, I was trying to get the dream-triplets onto a plane right after birth and had no idea what I was doing).
I just wake up with a vague sense that I had a really odd dream and pass out again.
