Do they go together? Common AND uncommon names. Help!

I’m looking for some advice. I am a teen berry, name lover, who is looking at names for in the future. That being said, my style may change by the time I have children… but if it doesn’t, I’m curious about something.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] common and unique mix for sibsets?

In my personal [potential] case, it would only be about one common mixed with unique.

I have mostly unique boy [and girl] names in mind… except one… [name_u]Riley[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]… for a boy.

I know, common. But I’ve loved it since I was little. [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is SO common… so I don’t know how well a little boy named [name_u]Riley[/name_u] would feel mixed with brothers such as [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] or [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. [I do have a few other more common boy names… but less common compared to [name_u]Riley[/name_u]]

So… do think I could have a [name_u]Riley[/name_u], and then a [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]? I love them both so dearly.

I think it depends on the names, but typically it shouldn’t matter. The three you mentioned would go fine together, they don’t feel unbalanced at all. However, I wouldn’t go as far to say that its a good idea to name one kid [name_m]Bill[/name_m] and the next [name_m]Xanthos[/name_m] (or something along those lines).

I think it’s fine!
But, if I were you, I would pair [name_u]Riley[/name_u] with a more unique middle name

I think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] works fine with your other names. The only thing I might avoid is pairing [name_u]Riley[/name_u] (b) with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (g), as that could be confusing. [name_u]Riley[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is very handsome.

I actually think all three of those names sound great together. And I don’t think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are too close

Definitely! I’ve always believed that what is most important in a sibling set at the end of the day, is that both parents love the names entirely! A lot of my names vary in style - I mean, one of my favourites is [name_u]Saylor[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but our top boys name is [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. They’re totally opposite ends of the style spectrum (much more than [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], imo!) but if S/O and I have a little [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and then decide that [name_u]Saylor[/name_u] is the perfect choice for his little sister - we’d use it.

I don’t think [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are terribly far off to be honest, I can easily imagine brothers with those names. They’re both kind of rough-and-tumble style names imo for boys (though I do love [name_u]Riley[/name_u] for a girl - it gives me a totally different vibe there).

Also, [name_u]Riley[/name_u]'s not as common for boys as it once was - by the time you do have children, it could have fallen even further out of popularity!
