I was just curious if this is a thing parents actually do in other words.
If your were expecting in [name_u]October[/name_u], would you use names that feel halloween associated?
If you were expecting in [name_u]December[/name_u], would you use names like [name_u]Holly[/name_u] or anything [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] associated?
Would you name baby of (x month) any different than a baby of (y month)
If my husband and I didn’t already have top names that are special to us…maybe?
This might come into play more with boys than with girls as we are settled on top 2 girl names but have vetoed each other’s top boy name.
I can imagine if I were expecting in the spring, that might dissuade me from using names like [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Harvest[/name_u], or [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] but if I were expecting in the fall/winter I would be dissuaded from using [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], or [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and the like.
But I don’t know about a proclivity toward certain names as I wouldn’t want them to be forever tied to that holiday, especially if they grew up not liking said holiday/choosing not to celebrate it.
I’d rather use a favorite, beloved name any time of year. I don’t think names have easy-to-pinpoint vibes anyhow, so I wouldn’t naturally think to switch up my faves (or my choices) for the season.
Though… I would think it cool if I knew someone who named their baby like this! Different methods and ways to name are so interesting to share and learn.
Maybe a tiny bit? I guess for us it’s not so much birth month related as holiday related. Important holidays like [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], [name_f]Easter[/name_f], Yom Kippur etc might have a slight influence on our choice, especially for middle names. It could be a nice touch, maybe give us a bit of inspiration, but we’re not looking for it.
Our daughter was born on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] day, for example, and one of her middle names is [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]. We’d have used it anyway, even when if she was born in, let’s say, [name_u]July[/name_u], but the fact that it felt a little Christmassy made me love it more.
not really, unless she was born in [name_u]December[/name_u], not only because of [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], but because it’s the month my best friend was born. I already know my first daughter’s middle name is going to be after her. but if she was born in [name_u]December[/name_u] I would really have to be talked out of using [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Star[/name_f].
I have yet to name an actual human so I may feel differently when that time actually comes but I could see the season having some influence on my choices.
Most of my favorites would work well enough at any time of year but a few feel pretty seasonal. A [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] born in [name_u]July[/name_u] or a [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] born in [name_u]October[/name_u] would feel a little odd to me because [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] feels snowy and [name_u]October[/name_u] isn’t a very floral time of year. If they were my number one favorite pick I would still use them but if, for example, I was due in [name_u]November[/name_u] and had narrowed my list down to [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_u]Marie[/name_u] and they were equal in all other aspects I might lean more towards [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] because it feels much more autumnal than the other two and vice versa, if the due date was in [name_f]April[/name_f] I’d probably lean away from [name_u]Hazel[/name_u].
I generally find obvious themes a bit cheesy so I wouldn’t go out of my way to pick an obviously holiday themed name purely for the sake of the theme, but if a name I already had on my list had some sort of special holiday related meaning/connection for me then a baby being born at the relevant holiday would make me more likely to pick it. For example, I wouldn’t choose [name_u]Holly[/name_u] or [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby just because they’re born near [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] but [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] “Mattie” has a very specific special Chrtimassy connection for me so it would be significantly higher on my list for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby than any other time of the year to the point where it might actually beat out my all time favorite for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby when any other time of year it wouldn’t (Holly is on my list and would feel weird on a summer baby because of the holiday connection but I’d be more likely to use it in [name_u]November[/name_u] or [name_u]January[/name_u] to lessen the cheese factor of the direct holiday reference but if it ended up being the name for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby then so be it).
Yes, I would! This would be a somehow important factor for me, definitely going to consider it, but maybe would include it as a middle? I would also consider maybe the weather or any circunstances that happened during or before the birth because it gives the name meaning.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite names are always like that - so my children will have as firsts always those, but as middle I would use: something that is related to their birth (like a child born in [name_u]Winter[/name_u] with middle name Neva) or something bold that I do not dare to use as first but I would like to use as a middle, or some wish I have for the child.
I don’t think I would, unless I had a certain attachment to that month? Like, I might have to name an [name_u]October[/name_u] baby [name_f]Opal[/name_f], because it’s a name I love, a stone I love, and a meaningful month so it would just fit?
I do know several people who’ve got Christmassy middles as they were born around [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] though
I would use my favourite name no matter what, 10/10 would still give my daughter a floral name (if that’s what I want), even if she’s born on the coldest snowiest winter day. The only names that make me a tiny bit thoughtful and are month names. Would I name my daughter [name_u]October[/name_u] if she’s gonna be born in [name_f]May[/name_f]? I think that’s why I would skip month (and day) names.
yess 100%! (well i’m not a parent yet but) when i do name my kids, the month / season will have a huge impact on what i decide to name them. i thought i was the only one who cared / thought about this!! this is a great thread for ex i wouldn’t use a fall / witchy name like octavia for a child born in the summer, i’d use a name like blake!
I have looked at “fall baby name lists” but just for fun and inspiration. I wouldn’t discount a Christmassy name or spring or whatever just because we’re having a fall baby.
[name_u]Eh[/name_u], I haven’t thought much about it. [name_f]My[/name_f] child was born just before Valentine’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] and it didn’t factor into his name at all. I do have some Christmas-themed names on the list for another baby but just because I like them, not because of a potential birth month.
For [name_u]October[/name_u] the names would be [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_u]Jack[/name_u], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_m]Frank[/name_m], [name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
For [name_u]December[/name_u] the names would be [name_u]Holly[/name_u], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_f]Christina[/name_f], Christpher, [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_u]Angel[/name_u]. [name_f]Noelia[/name_f], [name_f]Natasha[/name_f], [name_u]Christian[/name_u] , [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
No not at all. For firsts I use names I like the sound and spelling of and that feel right in terms of popularity (not crazily popular, but not a made up name), and preferably have a nice meaning. For middles I like honours.
The only way I could see myself being like “hmmm what month/season is it? Let’s just call then [name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or Holly” would be if I was up to like 20 kids and running out of ideas or too busy/stressed/tired to even care anymore
