A couple different (long, meaningful) paths have led me to REALLY consider the name [name]Miriam[/name]. What is the general opinion of this name? What kind of girl or woman would a [name]Miriam[/name] be? [name]Do[/name] any of you have the name in your families or circle of friends? What’s people’s experience with “[name]Miriam[/name]”? It’s #342 in 2011. That’s a lot of [name]Miriam[/name]'s. What three words come to mind to describe this name or how it makes you feel?
I really like
[name]Miriam[/name] Lior (meaningful),
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (family name),
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanore[/name] (my name in the middle),
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] (SO’s name in the middle - I know this seems weird but it is a thing in my family & would carry on a sweet tradition),
And some other middles like [name]Arden[/name], [name]Maple[/name], [name]Io[/name], [name]Colette[/name]… What sounds good with [name]Miriam[/name]? Last name sounds like Garris. Thanks Berries.
I have a friend [name]Miriam[/name] nn [name]Mimi[/name]! 3 words: sweet, funny, kind. I’m really really loving this name though I love the French version [name]Myriam[/name] a little bit more, the name makes me happy and in a good mood when I think about it on a little girl. I think [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanore[/name] is beautiful! I have it with [name]Beatrice[/name] as one of my combos so I think that, [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name] (which I usually don’t care for) are good options
I love [name]Miriam[/name] Lior! I have never met anyone who went by [name]Miriam[/name] but I love the name. [name]Miriam[/name] makes me think… happy, full of life, smart, a deep thinker. I could never imagine an idiotic [name]Miriam[/name]. I could imagine a girl/women in any life stage named [name]Miriam[/name]. A [name]Miriam[/name] could be an artist, a lawyer, a farmer, a teacher, anything. I also like [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanore[/name].
I have known an idiotic [name]Miriam[/name], and also a literally crazy [name]Miriam[/name] (not an idiot, just very mentally ill) but I do like the name. I’ve known a few. It’s a bit of a little black dress to me, there’s one for almost any type. I could see it working at any age. It’s not my favourite Biblical girl’s name, but it is timeless and striking.
I like it, though I think I would choose [name]Mara[/name] over it, just because [name]Mara[/name] feels more underused. [name]Miriam[/name] is a strong name though. I like [name]Miri[/name] as a nickname, or [name]Mira[/name].
I realized I had a very strange reaction, but I can’t picture a [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] at all. I’m sure they’re out there, I guess it’s just the contrast of flavours, as it were. [name]Miriam[/name] Lior feels more natural to me but don’t not do a family name just because I can’t quite visualize it.
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Ayelet[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Tamar[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
or, if I try to branch out a bit:
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Rue[/name] - instead of [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Cassia[/name] - instead of [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Keziah[/name], but maintaining the contrast of meanings between “bitter” and “cinnamon”)
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - Reference to [name]Margaret[/name].
My cousin is named [name]Miriam[/name] and goes by [name]Mimi[/name]. She is creative, kind of free spirited, but also driven. I like her and her name very much.
My best friend is named [name]Miriam[/name], which I felt was always too old fashioned for her.
She is very friendly, nice, extrememly smart, and absolutely beautiful. She has silky, long, dark brown hair, tan skin and brown eyes. She played volleyball, but gave it up to be president of best buddies. Best Buddies is a great program involing special needs highschoolers/college-aged persons. She was a little selfish however, forcing her mom to move to LA.
I have recently been loving the name [name]Miriam[/name] and I have never met one in my life. I think it is underused and it is so pretty and fresh compared to all the Sarahs, Rachels, Rebekahs, (other Biblical choices, though fine names) I think [name]Miri[/name] or [name]Mira[/name] would be such a cute nickname. [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] is pretty or [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Colette[/name]. [name]Miriam[/name] really doesn’t fit in with my girls naming style as of right now, but I may use it someday down the road if I have a lot of girls.
I don’t like [name]Miriam[/name] sorry. The only [name]Miriam[/name]'s I’ve met were my friend’s grandmother, this 50-something year old woman who runs a daycare my friend introduced me to, and this 23 year old girl who actually hates her name and goes by her middle name([name]Alyssa[/name]) instead. Regardless of them, I’ve always seen the name [name]Miriam[/name] as middle aged - old woman’s name. But don’t take me too seriously we just have different tastes
I know one young [name]Miriam[/name] who goes by [name]Mimi[/name] (never liked either name at all though).
And I know a few old [name]Miriam[/name]'s in their 70s-90s.
It’s not my style. Too muddy.
I’m glad this thread came up. I just mentioned this name to my fiance last night. His face just lit up, especially at the nickname [name]Miri[/name]. Neither of us know any Miriams, so based on just the name alone with no positive or negative personal associations, I think it’s a great name. To be honest, it does seem like an “older” name, but with the cute nicknames mentioned like [name]Mara[/name], [name]Mimi[/name], and [name]Miri[/name], I think it would work for any girl. And like me, she may prefer to go by her full, more adult sounding name, even in childhood.
I really like [name]Miriam[/name] a lot. The Biblical character is quite impressive. Maybe in part because of her, I imagine [name]Miriam[/name] to be strong, smart, and musical. I know two Miriams, one in her 30s, the other in her 40s, they are both strong and smart (not necessarily musical). I agree it ages well and has good nicknames for a younger girl if [name]Miriam[/name] doesn’t work for her (but I think it could). [name]Mia[/name], [name]Mitzy[/name], and Mimsy all strike me as additional nn options.
My friend just name her baby [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Faith[/name], nn [name]Mimi[/name]. It’s really cute on her. it might be considered strange I guess, but I think [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] is really cute, especially since it’s a tradition. If it weren’t it might be too weird, iykwim. [name]Love[/name] the other choices too though, particularly [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] Lior.
While I love the meaning of [name]Miriam[/name], I am not sure I would use the name. However, the nicknames [name]Miri[/name] and [name]Mimi[/name] are pretty cute. My fave nn for [name]Miriam[/name] is [name]Mim[/name]!
I don’t know any [name]Miriam[/name]'s personally, but there was a [name]Mimi[/name] on a Soap [name]Opera[/name] (full name [name]Miriam[/name]) and a [name]Miri[/name] ([name]Miriam[/name]) from a movie ([name]Zac[/name] and [name]Miri[/name] make a porno) :???: There is an actress named [name]Miriam[/name] on the new tv show GCB. She plays a woman named [name]Cricket[/name]!!
[name]Miriam[/name] Lior is stunning! [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] sounds like a nun. [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanore[/name] is nice, but, no offense, it is a pet peeve of mine when people use their own name for the middle name spot for their child. So, I think [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] is strange. [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Arden[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Maple[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Io[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Colette[/name] don’t really flow well.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps! Good luck!
I know a few Miriams of varying ages, and I [name]LOVE[/name] it. I think it is very distinguished but sweet, feminine but not frilly. Some nicknames of the Miriams that I know are [name]Mim[/name], [name]Mimi[/name], and [name]Miri[/name]/[name]Mira[/name]. I love all of the nicknames, but [name]Miriam[/name] alone is beautiful as well.
I have a second cousin named [name]Miriam[/name], in her early thirties, she’s an attractive and very successful woman… [name]One[/name] who is very personable to boot!
I know a [name]Miriam[/name] who goes by [name]Mimi[/name]! She is very artistic and creative and really great to be around I think the name is really pretty and I love [name]Mimi[/name] as a NN option. I like [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Eleanore[/name] best as a combo!
