Do you like the name Pauline?

[name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Pauline[/name]?

I think it has a bit of a classy vintage feel to it, but others say it sounds like it belongs to their great-great-grandmothers.
Thoughts on the name?

Thinking about naming my baby girl this, after a close friend of mine.
Would consider [name]Paulina[/name], but I know a horrid one who ruined the name for me.

I like it. It’s always sounded like a spunky, WWII-era British girl…Where do these images come from, lol?

Hmm, I am afraid I agree–[name]Pauline[/name] sounds like a grandma’s name to me. Probably because the only [name]Pauline[/name] I know is my cousin’s grandmother, and she always seemed awful to me. I find [name]Paulina[/name] quite appealing, and I used to know someone with [name]Paulina[/name] [name]Eden[/name] on her list–I always thought that was so lovely! If you love [name]Pauline[/name], though, it’d be quite unexpected, and I’m sure people would grow to love it. And [name]Polly[/name] could be sweet as a nn, if you wanted one (honestly, I’m not terribly fond of the -olly names–[name]Polly[/name], [name]Molly[/name], even [name]Holly[/name], though I do think [name]Holly[/name] is sweet–but [name]Pauline[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name] is pretty cute). I would just make sure to go with a more modern/in-style or even classic middle, to give her options if she can’t stand [name]Pauline[/name]. Like [name]Pauline[/name] [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Pauline[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Pauline[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name].

I don’t have a problem with grandma names but [name]Pauline[/name] just isn’t an attractive name in general in my opinion. I usually don’t like feminizations in general and the -een ending sound sounds kind of bus driver-y if that makes sense.

I’m not a fan at all. It’s not even grandma-y to me, it’s more like permanently middle-aged woman, like [name]Barbara[/name] and [name]Janet[/name] - for me, anyways. I don’t think it has that cute, vintage come-back factor.

[name]Ah[/name] my fears are confirmed!
Thanks for the input!

It’s not because I think it sounds like a grandma name, I just do not like the name [name]Pauline[/name]. I can’t pinpoint why really, there is just something about the sound/look of it that I do not personally like.

I like it, mainly for the potential nn [name]Polly[/name]

I really love the name [name]Pauline[/name]! I also think of it as a vintage name with a touch of class and royalty. I also love the nn’s [name]Polly[/name] and [name]Lena[/name]! Too cute!

[name]Pauline[/name]'s a mixed bag for me personally - it’s my grandmother’s name and I don’t have a great relationship with her. BUT [name]Emma[/name] [name]Watson[/name]'s character in Ballet Shoes was named [name]Pauline[/name], so I picture a 1930’s wanna be movie star chic British girl

[name]Pauline[/name] was, for many years, an old lady name to me. But I went to [name]France[/name] a few years ago and met not one but two young Paulines, aged about 10 or 11, and the French pronunciation of the name is just so cute (it’s more like Pow-leen than [name]Paul[/name]-een) it made me crush on it. I wouldn’t use it though because I could never get the French pronunciation to work in the UK. [name]Polly[/name] as a nn is cute as well. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like it and it means something to you, use it.

I love [name]Pauline[/name]! It’s vintage but more feminine and less fusty than some of the typical “old lady” sounding names ([name]Agnes[/name], [name]Mildred[/name], etc.) I think it would be fresh and charming on a little girl.

Nope, it sounds frumpy to me. [name]Polly[/name] is definitely an improvement, but still not my favourite. Sorry!

[name]Pauline[/name] sounds classy, could get you to sweet nicknames [name]Polly[/name] or [name]Lina[/name] or [name]Lee[/name]. It is the kind of vintage that isn’t quite “back” yet, but I think it’s a solid & strong name. Once people associate the name with your daughter they won’t perceive it as old ladyish as much as they did before. [name]Polina[/name] is probably a more modern choice if that concerns you, but I do like [name]Pauline[/name] a bit better.

No, I really dislike it, to be honest. [name]Even[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] can’t salvage it.

I prefer [name]Paulina[/name].

Yes! I love Ballet Shoes so that’s probably why I like it  It is a little dated for a first name, but it’d be lovely in the middle. The one thing I don’t like about [name]Paul[/name]/[name]Paula[/name]/[name]Pauline[/name]/[name]Paulina[/name] is the way Americans pronounce it  Sorry, but I really dislike how it becomes PAHL-een.

I’ve never really liked [name]Pauline[/name],[name]Paula[/name] [name]Paulette[/name] etc.

I’m not a fan personally.

I love a lot of grandma names, but not [name]Pauline[/name], as it doesn’t have a nice sound to it.

My Auntie was called [name]Pauline[/name], I adored her. She was tall, beautiful, funny with masses of red curls. Her nickname, as she was the youngest girl, was [name]Bab[/name] however, I don’t think I could name my Daughter [name]Pauline[/name]… Obviously though, it’s your baby, your choice. Good [name]Luck[/name]
