Does anyone else love “mom” names?

I’ve seen some of my favorite names, like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_u]Camille[/name_u], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], Lillian/Jillian, [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_u]Beverly[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and others be called mom names before. This isn’t a dealbreaker or anything for me; I don’t mind names that might sound “older”, but I wonder if this is the case for anyone else. If so, what “mom names” do you guys like?

[name_u]Florence[/name_u] is one of my top two girls’ names, so I suppose that’s a “mom name” I love! I live in the USA though, where [name_u]Florence[/name_u] doesn’t rank very highly (she’s currently sitting pretty in the 713th spot). She hasn’t ranked in the top 100 since the year 1940. For me, she’s more of a “grandma name,” which I always adore.

I think of [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Darcie[/name_f], and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] as “mom names,” though—and I love all of them! (Well, love most, like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f], generally.)

I didn’t realize Florence wasn’t even in the top 500. Some days I do like her more than Flora :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I am a huge fan of ubiquitous [name_f]Gen[/name_f] X names like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u], [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. I guess partly because I’m old enough that they were the cool older girls when I was a kid. (Nicole, [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] not as much, they feel like different styles to me.)

[name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Karen[/name_f] I think is lovely, despite it having the right feel for the meme too imo. I don’t think a joke or a character ruins a name.

Totally forgot [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!

[name_f]My[/name_f] mum’s name actually is [name_f]Beverley[/name_f] but I guiltily prefer the American spelling [name_u]Beverly[/name_u]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] that name!

Honestly though, not many others…I suppose it depends which generation you think of as ‘mom names’, for me this would be things like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Karen[/name_f], [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], [name_f]Sue[/name_f], [name_f]Alison[/name_f], [name_f]Brenda[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Janet[/name_f], [name_u]Gill[/name_u] - 60s names! And I really struggle to like most of those because they still feel dated to me. If we’re thinking more [name_f]Gen[/name_f] X, like [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] etc, it’s more like my peers (early 90s baby) so they don’t feel fresh or interesting either.

I love seeing how people younger than me experience these ‘dated’ names differently though :relaxed:

I like some of these names too!! [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_u]Beverly[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] are lovely

A few I like that I’d consider in this category:

[name_f]Loretta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f]

I love so many “mom” names! I renamed myself, and I chose a “mom” name (Christine).

Some of my favorites are [name_f]Diane[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], [name_f]Justine[/name_f], [name_u]Julie[/name_u], [name_f]Angela[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], and [name_f]Melanie[/name_f].

[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] might be a little older than “mom” names, but I love them too.

What makes a ‘mom’ name depends on your location and age. But for me ‘mom’ names would be names popular in the 60/70 era (even though 80/90’s/early 00’s are the current moms) and in the US so thats what I’m gonna go with. Off that list [name_u]Ive[/name_u] always liked…

“Mom Names” that were popular for women my mom’s age generally feel irredeemably dated to me but for “Mom Names” that were popular for people my age or a little older that are actively having new babies now its a 50/50 toss up if I like it. Ultimately, I probably wouldn’t use those ones because it would be kind of awkward for my kid to be the only one in her class but four of the other kids’ moms share her name and I like a lot of other names too that wouldn’t read as middle aged lady to her peers.

Examples of Some of the Ones I Like:
[name_f]Nicole[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_u]Lauren[/name_u]

I also like [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] but I don’t count that as a mom name. That reads vintage grandma on the brink of a comeback since its peak popularity was in the 30’s. And [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] has been a recent crush of mine. The peak popularity does line up for it to be a bit of a mom name but I’ve never met one so that thought hadn’t even occured to me until now.

Yes, me too…! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] was my “gateway” name to [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. Both are beautiful, but [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. I mean, what a glorious name that is.

Sure do.

[name_f]My[/name_f] moms young, so for me mom names are things like [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u], [name_f]Kristina[/name_f], [name_f]Monica[/name_f], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f]. But I love all the names you listed.

I find it so fascinating that Florence is considered a ‘mom’ name (Im guessing most of you are UK, but correct me if Im wrong) since Florence peaked here in the US in 1900! Meaning she’s ripe for revival!

For me, the real mum names are [name_f]Susan[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], [name_f]Donna[/name_f]. And I really like some of them as well — [name_f]Susan[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in particular.

Me too and I’m in the U.K.! I know quite a few Florences younger than me and one of my best friends wants to use it if she ever has a girl. It reads as much more 1900 vintage than ‘mom’ to me.
