We are due with our third baby in [name_u]February[/name_u] and planning on calling them [name_m]Angus[/name_m] (if it’s a boy).
I like the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u] but lately I’ve really been loving the name [name_u]Augie[/name_u] and wondering if this works as a nickname for [name_m]Angus[/name_m]? I saw it as a suggestion for nickname somewhere once but haven’t seen it anywhere since.
I’ve tried convincing my husband to call him [name_u]August[/name_u] instead but he really wants to use [name_m]Angus[/name_m] which is fine.
i see it, personally !! it’s one of those nicknames that i don’t know for sure will stick (as in, people other than you and your partner may not think to use it, because it’s not super intuitive) but it makes sense to me sound-wise! i think august, augustus, augustin etc are better options if you’d like augie to be used regularly, but if you just want it to be something cute you call him at home then angus is perfectly adequate
[name_u]Eh[/name_u], it could work, if you use it in place of [name_m]Angus[/name_m] socially and introduce him as [name_u]Augie[/name_u]. People might assume it’s short for [name_u]August[/name_u] because I don’t think people will connect it to [name_m]Angus[/name_m]. It’s definitely an intentional choice and you might find yourself correcting people but if your husband is ok with [name_u]Augie[/name_u] or if you’re ok with people calling him [name_u]Gus[/name_u] if introduced as [name_m]Angus[/name_m] then go for it. It’s not completely off base but it’s not a common connection.
I think it is fine. One benefit of it is that it starts with the same letter as [name_m]Angus[/name_m], whereas [name_u]Gus[/name_u] does not. Another potential nickname for [name_m]Angus[/name_m] is [name_u]Ace[/name_u].
I think [name_u]Angie[/name_u] would work better than [name_u]Augie[/name_u], but that’s coded rather feminine, sadly. I’m personally not a fan of [name_u]Augie[/name_u] as it sounds too much like a word for group adult fun when said in my accent. It’s not too much of a stretch to nuke though it may require some explaining, but if I were you I’d either push for [name_u]August[/name_u] or settle with [name_m]Angus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
