Does Bennett work?

I am drawn to the name [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] for our second son and brother for [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. It’s one of the few that my husband and I can agree on. I have a few concerns that I’m hoping you brilliant berries can shed some light on for me…

  1. Our last name is kind of like [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] so [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] could be a bit of a tongue twister. I’m not normally into alliteration but I do think this works because we do not have double "n"s in our real last name

  2. [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] be shortened to [name_m]Ben[/name_m] by most people? This was my fear with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and so far no one calls him [name_m]Luke[/name_m] but he’s only 2.5. I do like [name_m]Luke[/name_m]/[name_m]Ben[/name_m] I just prefer the full names because they sound more distinguished.

  3. Is this a unisex name? [name_m]Ive[/name_m] seen it listed other places as unisex and that would really bother me!

  4. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel it goes with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]? We are still seriously considering [name_m]Pierce[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] & [name_u]Everett[/name_u] but my husband only agrees with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] at this point.

Any insight you can give will be much appreciated! Naming baby #2 has been like a part time job for me that I am ready to quit lol!!

I do like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] together, but I’m a little unsure of [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and your last name together! I think it’s kind of inevitable that [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] will get shortened to [name_m]Luke[/name_m]/[name_m]Ben[/name_m] at some point, most likely in the teenage years with their friends etc.

[name_m]Pierce[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] are all good options - love [name_u]Everett[/name_u] especially with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] would become Ev or [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] would be [name_m]Griff[/name_m] or [name_u]Finn[/name_u] so [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] is the only one that I don’t think can be shortened.

[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] & [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] would be great together!

Thanks for the input sheflieswithwings! I tend to agree with you on all points!

[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] is not a unisex name. There is a [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] in my sons school and he is not called [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. I am sure at some point he will be called [name_m]Ben[/name_m] by someone. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] is my grandmothers maiden name so I would consider it only for a middle name for a girl in her honor, because its very much a boys name. All your options are great so u can’t really go wrong!

I have female ancestors named [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], but it hasn’t been unisex (or fem.) since the 1650’s-early1700’s. I doubt [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] would be called [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. The alliteration would bother me, but it’s a great name–tough call! I’d consider [name_m]Cabot[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] & [name_u]Noah[/name_u].

I have a [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and think it is the perfect name! He is NEVER called [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. A few people have tried and we just say “Oh, he’s [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], not [name_m]Ben[/name_m]”. No more issues. [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_m]Brenner[/name_m]. It is not ideal, but it isn’t bad.
