I know a [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Katie[/name_f], so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to not use. [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname, but for some reason, I don’t like it as much for a stand alone name.

Sure. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t try and claim there’s a connection between [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Calla[/name_f]?

[name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a standalone name choice for me, it doesn’t make sense to shorten [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] up to [name_f]Callie[/name_f] either, the letters aren’t all there, and the sounds definitely aren’t. It’s too much of a stretch to me. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a lovely alternative though, as southern.maple suggested :slight_smile: I know a [name_f]Calla[/name_f] who is about 13 now, and that’s what her name was always shortened to. Another NN idea for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (one that I would use if I chose [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]), is [name_f]Emmie[/name_f].

I’ve never thought of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] as a standalone name - but for a nickname for [name_f]Calista[/name_f] it’s my absolute favourite. I also know it as a nickname for Calytrix or [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch, you have the main sounds of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] in [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (although maybe not in order). You can use standalone names as nicknames now anyway - [name_f]Katy[/name_f] is still used as a nickname but is now a “proper” name too.

Go for [name_f]Callie[/name_f] if you like that nickname, it’s beautiful. Other alternatives could be [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_u]Clem[/name_u] or [name_u]Clemmie[/name_u]?

One of my cousins is named [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], nicknamed [name_u]Lou[/name_u], so to me [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is definitely not much of a stretch and is a beautiful nn for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]! I actually prefer it to the standalone name. I think you get a lot more leeway with nicknames.

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone. It looks like the poll is nearly a tie, but the majority agrees that [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a standalone name, and one of my pet peeves is trying to use a standalone as a nickname.

Thanks for the suggestion of [name_f]Calla[/name_f]- it is really pretty but for some reason [name_f]Callie[/name_f] feels more complete to me.
