[name_m]Hi[/name_m], we are preggo with baby #3. Our older children are [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. LN is an easy one syllable name. My husband and I both like the name [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], and its meaning, but hubs doesn’t think it goes well with our other kids’ names. I think he could be persuaded. What do you guys think though? I think of [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] less like a “[name_u]Jersey[/name_u]” name, and more in the “upper crust British staple” way (see the Nameberry entry on [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] where they mention this). Not that [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] are British or anything, but I see them both as classic and they both have connections to the Bible. Since [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] means “belonging to the [name_m]Lord[/name_m],” I see it fitting well. But I want to know your reactions. Thanks.
PS-- Other boy names we like (you can see in my signature) are [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] ([name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is my least favorite of those; [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is prob my hubs’ least fave). Tell me if you like any of these better with our other kids’ names too.
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m] is a perfect fit with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. I don’t live in an area with a lot of Italians, so I can’t think of it as a “[name_u]Jersey[/name_u]” name. If the name was [name_u]Tony[/name_u], [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u], or [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] I might see your point. But [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]? It’s very versatile.
I love [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]! I tend to think of it as more upper crust British as well. I think it’s fine with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. If it’s your favorite, go for it! But I will say my favorites with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] are [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. Good luck!
I actually really adore [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. I think it makes a really great pairing, and [name_m]Dom[/name_m] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u] are really great nns (I’m incredibly in love with the nn [name_m]Dom[/name_m] for a little boy!). I really like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and even [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], but I hesitate with the repeating initials. I think [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are my favorites, but I really like the idea of [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], or [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. All four are really excellent options!
Not just to be contrary, but I don’t really like [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] with [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m] has a distinctly Latin sound to me, probably because I live in a strongly hispanic/roman catholic area and all the [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]'s I know are of that culture/heritage. While [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] feel much more “white”.
It’s a perfectly nice name with a great meaning, that’s just my first impression. (Same with names like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], etc.)
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] is my favorite of the others, but I also think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] would be a great fit.
OK, thank you all! I am working on convincing the hubs now. I really like the other names too, and they all have meaning for us, so we shall see. We have about 8 months to make up our minds (read: for me to obsess over it). Of course, no idea if it’s even a boy. Boy names are so much easier for me to deal with because there are way fewer that I really like. But girl names are so fun and I have to go through endless combinations. So far, I have tried not to bug him with name ideas (esp since it’s so early). [name_f]Glad[/name_f] I have you Berries!
Sorry, but I’m going to have to agree with @kala_way. I feel like your other kids’ names have an easy-going, English feel, but [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] is very Latin and somewhat aristocratic. None of them are bad names; I love them! [name_m]Just[/name_m] feel like you could have a better sibset…
