Although I feel it is becoming too common and very nicknamey I have agreed to name our firstborn [name]Evie[/name] (if we have a girl)
My Husband is so utterly in love with the name he smiles every time he says it. His face lights up, so of course I have agreed. I decided I would choose the middle name and fell madly in love with [name]Primrose[/name].
And then suddenly evening primrose oil popped into my head out of nowhere. It hadn’t before but for some reason today it did.
What do you think? Is [name]Evie[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] totally unusable?
Yes, it is very similar. But, if you hadn’t drawn the comparison, I wouldn’t have thought of it.
BTW, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Evie[/name]! (And [name]Evening[/name] for that matter.) I’m devastated it’s gotten so popular. Although not as popular here in the US as it is in the UK apparently.
Not being as popular in [name]America[/name] is a big pro for me. I’m British myself but now live in [name]America[/name] so I’m not as concerned as I would have been raising the child in [name]England[/name].
I would think of evening primrose, but only because I take it every day!
Would you consider a longer first name, with [name]Evie[/name] as a nickname? [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Evelina[/name], even [name]Genevieve[/name] could work!
It sounds like you’re pretty emotionally invested in the name now, which is great. [name]Evie[/name] is adorable. [name]Primrose[/name] isn’t my style, but primroses (or evening primroses) are extremely hardy little desert flowers, so I think it’s a cool name in that it’s very feminine but secretly tough. You’ll just call her [name]Evie[/name] most of the time anyway, so it’s not the worst if [name]Evie[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] sounds a bit like an herbal extract… Besides, if you can name someone [name]Magnolia[/name], then why not [name]Evening[/name] [name]Primrose[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you like other plant names, or just [name]Primrose[/name]? Some other sweet botanicals:
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Fern[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Clover[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] Thistle
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Pine[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Petunia[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Verbena[/name]
I really love [name]Evie[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] and when reading it i didn’t relate it too anything.
[name]Don[/name]'t know why others suggest a longer FN I would stick with it as a first name on its own. I don’t see the point in naming her one thing and then calling her another i see it on this site a lot and i find that concept odd.
Best of luck!
I hope you do choose it cause it is lovely
I like this idea and my other half is not against it, however, he dislikes every possible name I can think of that would shorten to [name]Evie[/name]! I’ve always felt like I will have a boy first so hopefully I don’t have to solve my girls name issues for a while!
