Hi all!
I’ve always loved the name Matilda, but I’ve found recently that the brand Matilda Jane makes me feel differently about it. If you aren’t familiar with it, Matilda Jane is an American clothing company (and once MLM) that sells kids clothes that have a very distinct style. Like multiple printed fabrics and really just a huge amount of ruffles. This is not my style at all, but it is a popular style where I live in the American South.
My question is - does the company Matilda Jane influence your opinion of the name? I tend to think more of the book “Matilda” personally, but if others feel strongly that it reminds them of brand I would love to know.
- I think of the brand when I hear “Matilda”
- Nope! I don’t think of it.
Thanks!!
I actually live in the south of [name_f]America[/name_f] and am interested in clothing and fashions, and I’ve never heard of it! mostly always think of the book [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] when I hear the name and I love it

I have heard of the brand but it’s not a strong association
I think most people would think of [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl’s [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] first, which is a lovely association!

I’ve never heard of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and even if I had, I don’t think it would affect my impression of the name. I’m Australian, though, so my first and strongest association is Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - and lately, the Australian women’s soccer team, nicknamed the Matildas.

I’m in the UK, so maybe my perception isn’t so helpful, but I’ve never heard of the brand - and I think there are more prominent associations with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (Roald [name_m]Dahl[/name_m], the musical, the song, just the fact it’s a classic)

I am not in [name_f]America[/name_f] – but I have never heard of the company and do not associate it with the name, even after being told of it. [name_f]My[/name_f] primary associations with it are the eponymous character in [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl’s [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Empress[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. The latter isn’t even a strong connection for most people so I wouldn’t worry about that either.

I’ve never heard of the brand! I am in the US and know one [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (whose parents are from the UK). The name is gorgeous and fits her beautifully! I love that name.

I have heard of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] clothes but it doesn’t change the way I see [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as a name. You could probably avoid the middle names [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Jean[/name_f], maybe [name_f]June[/name_f] if you really want to dampen the association - but I wouldn’t worry about it.
