Does this nickname work?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Romy[/name_u] can work as a nickname for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]? My husband likes [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] more than [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], but I like [name_u]Romy[/name_u] as a nn. I think [name_m]Rossi[/name_m] is cute, but I’m trying to avoid [name_f]Roz[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] (although I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]). Is [name_u]Romy[/name_u] too much of a stretch?

For me personally it would be too much of a stretch but I don’t think that it would be totally unusable. It could happen though that people confuse her real name because of her nn.
If you are set on [name_u]Romy[/name_u] as a nn maybe you could also think about [name_f]Romana[/name_f] or [name_f]Romina[/name_f] as a full name.

I don’t see why not. Sure, it doesn’t make perfect sense, but does that really matter in the great scheme of things? Nicknames are supposed to be fun and informal, so yeah, [name_u]Romy[/name_u] for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] works for me.

Perhaps you could use a middle beginning with M if it does bother you though, to make using [name_u]Romy[/name_u] for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] a little more, I don’t know, obvious and sensible…?

I like the idea that sunniva had, above, of giving her a middle that starts with an M to make it more logical that her nn is [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. BUT if you don’t want to do that, you can certainly nn her [name_u]Romy[/name_u] anyhow. NNs don’t have to make sense really. I mean, how did anyone get [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?

I do think [name_u]Romy[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is too much of a stretch. I mean, the only thing they really have in common is the “[name_f]Ro[/name_f]” beginning. If you want [name_u]Romy[/name_u], what about [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Romola[/name_f], [name_f]Romana[/name_f], etc.?

It’s a stretch, but it works. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] would be better though.

It’s a bit of stretch, but nn’s don’t have to be exact matches.

If you want to make the link stronger you could use an M middle name.

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Margo[/name_f] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]

even something like:
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u] - I think could work nicely

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] make it a more clear option.

I think your biggest issue might be convincing people to use [name_u]Romy[/name_u] not [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].

Yeah I don’t think it works

I think it would work

I wonder the same thing about [name_f]Peggy[/name_f]! Thank you for reaffirming how odd this nickname is.

That’s what I was thinking. So what’s a nice M middle name that goes with [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]?

Ooh I like the [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] idea! Genius. And this is why I love the Nameberry community!
