Dolcie or Dulcie?

I’ve recently rediscovered my old favourites from when I was about 16-17 and decided that I do still love quite a few of them. One name I’ve always been a bit conflicted on is Dolcie/[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f].

On one hand, [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] feels much more classic, and I love how it sounds. I feel like, despite the alliteration of S/O’s last name with it, it works perfectly (as do our other favourites, [name_u]Darcey[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]). My biggest reservation is that in previous instances when I’ve asked about it (on various sites), I’ve gotten responses saying to avoid it because it sounds like “I’m dull, see?” and not “I’m [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]”.

Dolcie is just as lovely, imo, and I do love it, but the pronunciation is a little different to me (DOL-cee vs DUL-cee), and I’m not sure if this appears too “made up”.

Which would you choose, [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] or Dolcie?

Thanks!

[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]! Ignore the naysayers!

I like [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]!! Thank you for reminding me of it! I wouldn’t have thought of the dull-see thing

I think this is one of those cases where you just have to remember that nearly every name has something “wrong” with it. The “dull” is imo not egregious enough to discard the name.

I prefer [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], though for some reason my mind wants to pronounce it like “duel-chee”. I’m probably alone, but thought I’d throw it out there. It’s pretty and distinct either way.

I prefer [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] too. It’s more familiar, without being at all popular.

Another vote for [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]!

Dolcie has been gaining a bit of traction in the UK. As I was starting this comment I was leaning towards Dolcie but I’m warming up to [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] more now.

Dolcie doesn’t seem made up to me so much as it does seem to reference Italian dolce VS Latin dulcis. Still, I think I prefer [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]. I’m much more used to how it looks, and I like the sound better.

I prefer [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f].

I also really love this name (and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]!) but I have worried over “Dull” which i know is just nit picking… an alternative I had thought of was [name_f]Delcie[/name_f] - I love how it sounds however not sure if it sounds too “made up” either .

My general rule however is to go for the traditional- so I agree with PPs [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] is better

My vote goes to [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]. I find it very pretty. I first heard it when [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] Dornan (50 shades of grey actor) used it for his girl, and ever since I have liked it. Not fond of Dolcie.
