Thoughts on the name [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]?
I love the name but don’t want it to become shortened to [name_m]Don[/name_m] or Donnie…

I think [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] is nice, and I don’t think [name_m]Don[/name_m] or [name_u]Donnie[/name_u] will happen frequently (though I can’t speak for some older family members of yours that might naturally do so unless you tell them otherwise). Don/Donnie are not common nicknames anymore, and it’s very common for kids to go by full names now instead of automatically reverting to nicknames. That said, [name_m]Dov[/name_m] or [name_u]Van[/name_u] could be cool alternatives, if you’re looking for some.

I like Donovan; I think it flows well off the tongue. I don’t think [name_m]Don[/name_m] or [name_u]Donnie[/name_u] is inevitable, especially if you utilize another nickname.

i think you could avoid don and donnie; the one donovan i know is just donovan!
and if you do want a cooler, more modern nickname, there’s always nova

I think with any name with an obvious nickname, it’s easy to be the one enforcing the full name, but as a parent you run the risk of the child deciding they want to go by the shortened version.
I like the idea of nickname [name_u]Van[/name_u], and @emeraldsea suggestion of [name_u]Nova[/name_u] would be an unbelievably cool choice. [name_u]Or[/name_u] even Dono—most of the Jonathans I know go by Jono.

I know a [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], and his name is never shortened to anything, at least not in normal conversation. Nicknames are definitely avoidable. Donovan’s not exactly my style as a name, but it’s not bad!

I like [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]. I don’t think it will get shortened. [name_m]Don[/name_m] and [name_m]Donny[/name_m] aren’t very common nicknames anyway. If you want a nickname and don’t like [name_m]Don[/name_m] or [name_m]Donny[/name_m] I think [name_u]Van[/name_u] is really cute.

Other option would be [name_u]Declan[/name_u] - with middle name [name_u]Conley[/name_u]. I also really like [name_u]Connor[/name_u] but can’t do [name_u]Connor[/name_u] Conley…
How about [name_u]Declan[/name_u]?
