Don't hate

I never said it was hateful. Disrespectful, yes. Saying it was extremely sexist and oppressing to give those names to a daughter and begging the OP not to in my idea is disrespectful, especially when the OP already made clear she was sure of her taste and doesn’t want these kind of answers.

The OP stated that she didn’t want hate. This makes it pretty clear we’re all in agreement that what she said wasn’t hateful.

In response to the real topic here:
[name_m]Palmer[/name_m] – On a girl, all I can see is “palm her”… definitely not stretching the boundaries for girls. Seems ill suited for a girl, just like [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] (ride her).
[name_u]Landry[/name_u] – All I can see (and hear) is laundry.

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Hartley[/name_u], and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] are the only ones that could work well on a girl, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

A lot of people say that these names are “male” sounding. I don’t think so. To me they sound like surnames. [name_m]How[/name_m] can surnames be any gender? Weird.

Anyway, in general surname names are not my style but I like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] a lot. It’s like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but somehow cooler. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is definitely my favourite from your list.

I like [name_u]Chandler[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] and [name_m]Palmer[/name_m].
Instead of [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], how about [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]?

I also like the name [name_m]Anderson[/name_m], with [name_u]Andy[/name_u] as a nickname.
[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], [name_m]Macaulay[/name_m], [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Brady[/name_u], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_u]Campbell[/name_u], [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_u]Grady[/name_u], [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m], [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Miller[/name_m], [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], [name_f]Mckenzie[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], Keeler, [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Porter[/name_u], [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], [name_m]Sadler[/name_m], [name_m]Slater[/name_m], [name_u]Carson[/name_u], [name_m]Callahan[/name_m], [name_m]Preston[/name_m], [name_m]Terrell[/name_m], [name_u]Tierney[/name_u], [name_u]Quincy[/name_u], [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_f]McKenna[/name_f], McKinnley, Merrit, [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], [name_m]Nelson[/name_m], [name_m]Neilson[/name_m] are all suggestions I’m happy to throw out there! Some might be a bit girly for your taste, some might be a bit too masculine, but you might see the one!

[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_u]Quin[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_f]McKenzie[/name_f] already have been paved as unisex, but leaning more towards little girls in recent times.

[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] is one I didn’t expect to like. I always thought of it as mundane, but in the context for a little girl, I think it could work! I personally don’t know any girls called [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], which would be exciting and new, whereas if a boy was called [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], I would just think eh.

Good luck!

I can see [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Lennox[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] working on a girl, with my favourites being [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Lennie[/name_u] is cute), [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. For me [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is too much of a surname to work for a first (and too much like [name_m]Colin[/name_m] to work for a girl anyway) same with [name_m]Palmer[/name_m].

[name_m]Palmer[/name_m] - I second the “palm her” warnings. Middle school boys…
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u] - This reminds me of the episode of Friends when one of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]'s triplets is named after [name_u]Chandler[/name_u]. “[name_u]Chandler[/name_u]'s a girl!” [name_u]Chandler[/name_u]: Oh no… kindergarten flashback.
Maybe the show set a precedent, because I have heard it on girls since then!
[name_u]Landry[/name_u] - I’m outing myself as someone who watches too much tv, but all I can think of is the guy on Friday [name_m]Night[/name_m] Lights.
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] - I like this a lot! None of these names are my personal style, but I think [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is a nice combo of preppy/surname-y, but dainty at the same time.
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m] - Sort of works on a girl, in that it reminds me of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] from [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Garden. Only problem: [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] as a possible nickname (unless you like it!).
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - Wouldn’t bat an eye. I’ve only personally known a male [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], but you do hear it on girls.
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u] - I think I like this the least. Sorry, just not my style!
[name_u]Collins[/name_u] - [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is sort of reminiscent of those Southern girls who have a standard first name and a family name in the middle, but go by the middle name: EG, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] Lastname, or [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] Lastname, and they go by [name_u]Collins[/name_u]. It works.
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] - Like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], I think this really sounds like a girl name. Wasn’t there a female writer or producer with this name a while ago? Unfortunately, my second thought is [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], Queens and Run DMC’s classic, [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] in [name_u]Hollis[/name_u].

Similar names: [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_u]Waverly[/name_u], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]/[name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_m]Callan[/name_m], [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], [name_m]Lennon[/name_m], [name_f]Grier[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] I have liked for girls for a while, as well as [name_u]Landry[/name_u].
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m] I prefer on a boy, nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but if I used [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] for a girl I would nickname her lex or [name_m]Lenny[/name_m].
I also like, and some of these may not be surnames, but I like these for girls or at least a girls middle name: ( some I use for both girls and boys)

[name_u]Parker[/name_u] nickname park, [name_f]Keri[/name_f], or peri
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u]
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] nickname cami
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]…was a surname of a classmate of mine, always loved it
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
Haylen or Haylon not sure how the surname would be spelled
[name_u]Haven[/name_u]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] nickname wren, lane, laney, aura
leighton pronounced [name_m]Layton[/name_m]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_f]Brighton[/name_f] …[name_f]Bree[/name_f] or [name_f]Toni[/name_f]

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] would be my favorites from your list.

I know a girl named [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], and I could handle [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] on a girl.

I never thought of the [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] or [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] sound…hmmm interesting to think about. Thanks for the perspective.

There’s some cool ones in there! Thanks!!

No drama was intended here ladies, it doesn’t hurt my feelings if someone doesn’t like the style of name. Everyone has their own opinion & that’s totally ok! Debating sexism isn’t what the post was about, it’s just me wanting opinions of whether someone would use them & more to add to the list.

[name_m]Palmer[/name_m] - It reminds me of when [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] first meet, “And palm to palm is holy palmers’ kiss.” [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] has their first few lines back and forth to each other form a perfect sonnet. I think this is a pretty cool literary reference for a name to call to mind. [name_f]Polly[/name_f] could be a cute nickname. I understand what other people mean about “palm her”, though. I also like [name_f]Palmyra[/name_f], though I don’t think that fits your style.
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u] - I think this works on a girl, and [name_u]Chan[/name_u] would be a really cute nickname. What do you think of [name_u]Channing[/name_u]?
[name_u]Landry[/name_u] - It makes me think of [name_u]Ali[/name_u] [name_u]Landry[/name_u]. It doesn’t really do anything for me. It has sort of a cowboy/Western vibe in my head, but I don’t know why.
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] - I’m not really a fan of this one.
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m] - Makes me think of Macbeth. I think the sound of this name feels particularly unfeminine.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - I like this!
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u] - Not bad, but it feels sort of unspecial, since [name_u]Harley[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] seem to be pretty popular or growing in popularity. I think I’d like [name_m]Hart[/name_m] better, like the poet [name_m]Hart[/name_m] [name_m]Crane[/name_m].
[name_u]Collins[/name_u] - [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] played a character in The Blinde Side whose first name in [name_u]Collins[/name_u]. I don’t really like this. It has a try-hard preppy sort of feel to me.
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this on a boy, but I like it on a girl too!

I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] were my favorites from your list, and then [name_u]Chandler[/name_u].
