Dorcas

[name_f]My[/name_f] little sister has this name as number two om her list, and I have never ever liked it, until this moment. How do you like [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f]? Would it fit a modern kid and what middles would you pair it with?

Ok I LOVE unusual Biblical names, I LOVE 'em, but [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] just makes me think of the work Dork, orcs and orcas. I could definitely see it in the middle spot, I think it could actually be pretty nice in the middle, but me personally I wouldn’t put it as a first. Of course it you love it then that’s perfectly fine! [name_m]Just[/name_m] my two cense.

Here’s some middles-

I don’t know how to feel about it. ([name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is this kind of lesser-known TV series called [name_u]Lark[/name_u] Rise to Candleford where one of the main characters is a woman named [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] – her character really wears the name well, which makes it seem likeable.)

However, this is the question that gets me:

And, tbh, ‘dork’ sticks out a little too much in this name to wear well irl.

Overall, it’s a cool and interesting name, but probably more for a gp, a mn, or a fictional character.

There’s too much potential for teasing for a child with this name. Dork-ass and [name_f]Dorkas[/name_f] are insults kids use all the time (I’m a teacher and regularly hear both). So, I’d never do this to a person. Maybe [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] or [name_f]Doris[/name_f] instead, although I’m not especially keen on those either.

I don’t really like the sound. The dork part definitely sticks out and could lead to teasing. I was introduced to it on a modern Tv show(chilling adventures of [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]). [name_m]Even[/name_m] then I’m not sure it can make a comeback yet.

Dorcas does remind me a bit too much of dork but I can see it’s appeal

Dorcas [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_u]Emilia[/name_u]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

I really want to like it, but it rhymes with or contains several unflattering names.

I think it would be tough to wear, but I actually do like it. It’s kind of pretty in its clunkiness. [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] are a trio of friends on [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] those names together!

Agree!

[name_f]My[/name_f] only association for the name is the children’s book [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] Porkus. It was my favorite growing up so I find it quite endearing, but [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] Porkus is a pig… not the best imagery for a child.
