We’re expecting #3, a boy, in [name_u]July[/name_u]. My daughter is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and my son is [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]. Looking for names that everyone has heard of but aren’t super common and that have, if not a real literary connection, a literary feel to them.
My top choice is [name_u]Dorian[/name_u], but my husband is worried it’s too feminine
I guess my second/third choices would be [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] - but I’m pretty sure my husband is anti-[name_m]Felix[/name_m].
He wants to name this baby [name_u]Ridley[/name_u]…which I’m not a fan of, but would be open to as a middle name if he gets on board with [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
We’ll be using an R name or a J name for a middle name, naming after family. My #1 top choice is [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
Would love to hear your opinions, how you feel [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] fits with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] + [name_m]Silas[/name_m], and any other suggestions you might have! Thank you!!
I don’t think [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is feminine at all and prefer it over [name_m]Damien[/name_m]. But there is nothing wrong with [name_m]Damien[/name_m], it’s a good name too.
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is such a handsome name, and not femenine at all. Having soft sounds doesn’t make a name less “manly” (anyway, I really think it’s all about perception and prejudices)
It looks like you’re into -ian/-ien names with a vintage vibe ([name_u]Dorian[/name_u], [name_m]Damien[/name_m], [name_u]Florian[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m])
My suggestions:
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]/[name_u]Adrien[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]/[name_m]Julien[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ciprien[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a wonderful name, but [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] has a nice ring too.
What about [name_u]Darian[/name_u]/[name_u]Darien[/name_u]/[name_m]Darius[/name_m]? [name_u]Darian[/name_u] [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] or [name_u]Darian[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] sounds super cool!
My cousins name is [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and he’s a pretty decent person. I always think names reflect the person and he’s creative, funny friendly. I rly like the name
But [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is cute. nickname [name_u]Dory[/name_u]
Maybe [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m]?
Or [name_m]Damien[/name_m] [name_m]Jorah[/name_m]? Has the same sounds as [name_f]Dori[/name_f]
I think [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] both sound nice. Other possible D names for a first could be:
[name_u]Darian[/name_u]
[name_m]Dante[/name_m]
[name_m]Damon[/name_m]
[name_u]Devon[/name_u]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
I definitely wouldn’t say [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] was feminine, but if the hubby doesn’t like it… I do like [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and [name_m]Damon[/name_m] as alternatives. I like [name_m]Damien[/name_m] more
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is a dashing and debonair prospect. [name_m]Damien[/name_m] doesn’t feel vintage compared to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
With [name_m]Silas[/name_m], I recommend [name_m]Felix[/name_m] or possibly [name_m]Nigel[/name_m] from your list.
Thank you so much, everyone! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see that [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is well-liked! I just don’t know if I’ll be able to convince my husband…
I do like the name [name_m]Damien[/name_m], but I’m not as excited about it as I am [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] - plus, I agree it doesn’t have the vintage feel that [name_m]Damien[/name_m] does (fwiw I prefer [name_m]Damien[/name_m] to [name_m]Damian[/name_m]…it looks more elegant to me). I tend to like the vintage/Victorian/romantic names more than he does; I’m lucky we agreed on [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]!!
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is really the only J name I like…again, not sure the husband is on board.
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] doesn’t feel too feminine, I think it’s a very handsome name! If not, what about [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_m]Dario[/name_m], or @emarias22’s suggestion of [name_m]Darius[/name_m]?
You still have a fair bit of time and I really believe you both have to love his name, or at least like it a lot. I’m not really a fan of [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] and I wouldn’t call it feminine but I just prefer stronger sounding names. I like pp’s suggestion of [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]. Maybe you would like one of these names…
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is so fab with your other kids. I think of the Doors perhaps more than [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_u]Gray[/name_u]; it gives me nothing feminine. But then again I am a sucker for a poetic boy’s name.
I adire [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] and it’s all boy to me. (And while I know it’s had some use with girls it’s never been a popular choice, and I can’t think of any reason it would be read as feminine.)
I think [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_u]Ridley[/name_u] would be very handsome.
Sidenote I love that your son’s middle is [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]! That’s a favorite of mine.
