Doris "Dory"

WDYT of [name_f]Doris[/name_f], nicknamed [name_u]Dory[/name_u]?

In my accent it would have to be ‘[name_f]Dorry[/name_f]’ (DOH-ree) (short o like hot) rather than ‘[name_u]Dory[/name_u]’ (DOOR-ee) as I pronounce [name_f]Doris[/name_f] with the short ‘o’ as ‘DOH-riss’.

If you’re saying ‘DOOR-iss’ for [name_f]Doris[/name_f] then [name_u]Dory[/name_u] makes sense.

I’m the same as renrose, I pronounce [name_f]Doris[/name_f] like DOH-riss so [name_u]Dory[/name_u] would be [name_f]Dorry[/name_f], not [name_u]Dory[/name_u]. I also feel [name_f]Doris[/name_f] to be way too outdated for my taste, as I know a 70-something-year-old woman called it.

I would say it like you would, but I can’t get behind [name_f]Doris[/name_f] as a name yet, still seems to old. Maybe [name_f]Dorrit[/name_f], but even then…
I like [name_u]Dory[/name_u], I know one that has the full name [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]. Also, Finding [name_m]Nemo[/name_m]/Finding [name_u]Dory[/name_u].

I think the name is very outdated, but it is one of those names that, in my opinion, should just kind of fade into oblivion. It’s not a cute or very pretty name, and the nickname [name_u]Dory[/name_u] does nothing for me. It isn’t a nickname I’d want bestowed on my child.

[name_f]Doris[/name_f] is very old-fashioned and outdated, with a sort of harsh sound to it. [name_u]Dory[/name_u] is, forever, the fish to me.

[name_f]Doris[/name_f] is just too old fashioned for me.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Doris[/name_f], not keen on [name_u]Dory[/name_u].

I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Doris[/name_f]. It just screams old lady to me. But, if you’re trying to get to the nn [name_u]Dory[/name_u], I went to school with a girl named Doralynn who went by [name_f]Dorie[/name_f]… I’ve always thought it was a pretty name!

[name_f]Doris[/name_f] is nice.
