What do you think of [name_f]Doris[/name_f]? I’ve never even thought about it before until I came across it today when talking about storms. Is it usable? What would you pair it with?
Is there anyone?
It doesn’t appeal to me.
I don’t see why not, but where I live it’s more of a quirky vintage kind of name. I went to a very alternative middle school and I had a classmate called [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] who went mostly by [name_f]Doris[/name_f]. I understand it is dated in English-speaking countries but I think it has more possibility to be revived than say, [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] or [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], it sounds somewhat lighter.
Ahhh…I think that would be an awful name to have, especially since it rhymes with clitoris.
I’m not keen on [name_f]Doris[/name_f] to be brutally honest - to me, it is one of those quintessential old lady names, but not in a charming, vintage revival sort of way.
However, I do think it has the potential to make a comeback, with similar sound/era names like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f] and even [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] coming back onto people’s radars. I suspect you’d be ahead of the curve with this one.
Trivia titbit: [name_m]David[/name_m] Tennant and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] Moffett’s youngest is called [name_f]Doris[/name_f], and they are definitely a cool couple!
It’s old, but older names seem to coming back into style lately. I don’t think [name_f]Doris[/name_f] has reached its so-old-it’s-new-again phase yet I think it could make an interesting choice. [name_f]Doris[/name_f] could match nicely with a modern or trendy name that would give it a modern, but old feel.
I’m not a fan, but I do think [name_f]Dorit[/name_f] is quite spunky.
I wouldn’t say I like it as much as I appreciate it. I’d never use it on my own kid, but I’d love to meet someone else’s little [name_f]Doris[/name_f]!
I have a soft spot for the much-scorned [name_f]Dolores[/name_f], so I understand the appeal.
Thanks everyone. I don’t actually know if I like it myself, I was mainly just curious.
I don’t really like [name_f]Doris[/name_f], but I do know a little girl called [name_f]Doreen[/name_f], I think that’s really cute, but I would still never use it for my child. Her nickname is [name_u]Ori[/name_u].
I used to adore the name [name_f]Doris[/name_f] when I was younger, but received quite a bit of flak for it on various sites, so I sort of dropped it.
I still think it’s adorable though, it’s just not S/O’s thing LOL
I did have [name_f]Doris[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Doris[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] on my list though
It feels a little dated to me…
I really like [name_f]Doris[/name_f], she could have the nickname [name_u]Dory[/name_u]!
If you like it then I would say it is usable. It just isn’t my style.
Oh, I find it quite pretty, but it’s not my kind of thing.
Not a fan.
