Any thoughts? Thank yOU!
In my opinion, [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] feels a bit dated. It reminds my of [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and the [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] and feels very “of that generation” to me for that reason. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is vintage but reminds me of other vintage names making a comeback. It also lends itself to some fun nicknames like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Dora[/name_f].
They are both beautiful [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is more surprising, and I think it’s more elegant than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. I agree with the previous poster that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is making a comeback right now, and for this reason I think it’s a bit too trendy. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] just feels a little bit more considered, less off the cuff. Does that make sense?
I think nowadays, a young [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] seems more chic, like a future supermodel name. There’s a bit of a clunk that in it that I think can really make a lasting impression.
I like the combo in your sig of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f]. It’s very sweet! I also think that [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] would be evocative, beautiful, sweet, friendly and botanical enough, without [name_f]Marigold[/name_f].
Have you considered the name [name_f]Diana[/name_f]? Based on your sig I think you might like it!
Thank you @lovebeingamom and @anyagreenwich! @anyagreenwich your explanation makes perfect sense! I have loved [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] for awhile and its been my number 1 for over a year now (good for me! haha). And I’ve usually liked it more than [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], for the reasons you explained - it feels more chic. BUT I thought of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] as more popular that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]/more trendy instead of the other way around like you said. Maybe that’s because I have been looking at it for so many years now so my opinion of its popularity may be skewed… I don’t want it to be trendy!
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a nice name! I think it isn’t quite “vintage” enough for me yet though. It still reminds me of someone in their 50-60s instead of an old grandma, like the other names in my sig make feel. Thank you for that suggestion though! I love hearing suggestions!
I love [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] but have never really taken to [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] feels elegant, sophisticated and strong to me while [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is a bit fusty and clunky.
@bonfireazalea I go back and forth about liking the “clunkiness” of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] has the exact same sounds but maybe the way they are put together makes them roll off the tongue better to some people
I love both but I do agree that [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is more quirky and unexpected now that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]'s getting a bit more use. I also think [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] fits in better with your vintage style.
I like [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] for a middle name, but for a first I prefer [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for either.
I much prefer [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]; it feels gentler and softer, and rolls off the tongue more easily. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is beautiful too, but sounds a bit harder.
