Dot/Dotty as a nickname for Daisy?

[name_f]My[/name_f] OH and I are discussing girl names, we want to get it perfect (who doesn’t?!) OH still loves [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and I just wondered if you berries thought that [name_f]Dot[/name_f] could be used as a nickname for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]? It’s a family name and as OH doesn’t like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], have I found the perfect compromise?

Thank you

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a nickname name. A nickname name doesn’t need another nickname, in my opinion.

I also think that the name daisy is a nickname, but I think you could use [name_f]Dot[/name_f] as its even shorter than [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

I think you could use [name_f]Dot[/name_f], but she may get called “Daze” because that would be the assumed shortening-

It’s basically a nickname for a nickname. It also doesn’t has any connection or similarity between the names. What about something like [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Odette[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Dot[/name_f]? I think anything with a ‘dah’ or ‘ot’ sound in it would work much better.

If I knew someone whom I thought was named [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and someone called her “[name_f]Dotty[/name_f]” I would think I had her name wrong. Call her whatever you want at home, from [name_f]Dotty[/name_f] to [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Pumpkinbutt, but I wouldn’t expect her to use either in public. It would just be confusing.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is short enough already, it doesn’t need a nickname.

[name_f]Dot[/name_f] is very much a pet name to me, i.e. it can be used for any name (another name in that category would be [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]).
I don’t think [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] needs a nickname or would have one unless you initiate it which leads me to think that [name_f]Dot[/name_f] would be a family nickname only.
