I really like double names and I’m wondering what people think of the name [name]Mae[/name] [name]Reed[/name] for a little girl? She would have an additional middle name tbd. Thoughts??
It’s okay. Double names aren’t really my thing, though. It kind of reminds me of the Irish name [name]Mairead[/name], but that’s actually pronounced mawr-aid. I usually prefer [name]Reed[/name] spelled [name]Reid[/name], but [name]Mae[/name] [name]Reid[/name] looks strange. [name]Mae[/name] [name]Reed[/name] does look much better. [name]Reed[/name] just makes me think of the plant, which isn’t especially pretty, or the reed in a musical instrument like a clarinet, which makes me think of spit. Sorry.
I like it. I do prefer the spelling [name]May[/name] (like the month).
However, if you intend her to go by [name]Mae[/name] [name]Reed[/name] all the time, I strongly advise you to hyphenate. Otherwise, most people would assume [name]Reed[/name] was her middle name and call her [name]Mae[/name] or [name]Mae[/name] R. Lastname.
Thanks for the input. My middle name is [name]Reed[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] is a family name so the spellings would be that way for the significance. I agree sugarplumfairy, hyphenating would be a good idea.
Thanks!
We planned on calling my daughter [name]Mary[/name] [name]Claire[/name] but after she was born she just seemed like a [name]Mary[/name] so we dropped the [name]Claire[/name] for the most part. We did [name]Mary[/name] first name and [name]Claire[/name] middle so there was more flexibility.
What I think I would do would be to legally make her first name [name]Mae[/name], then give her two middles, [name]Reed[/name] plus the middle name you’re considering. But then in real life call her [name]Mae[/name] [name]Reed[/name] if you’d like. I have an aunt who is fn [name]Betty[/name] mn [name]Ann[/name], but everyone calls her [name]Betty[/name] [name]Ann[/name].
