Douglas

After seeing a post or two on [name_m]Douglas[/name_m], and some Douglas/Dougie name sightings, he is now back at the top of our list. We are having trouble finding the right middle name for him though and [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] is the current contender.
[name_f][/name_f]Ideally I’d go with [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], so I could use both my favourite names, but I don’t love the flow. Plus our surname ends in an s, so it’s very heavy on the s endings.
[name_f][/name_f]Is this an issue or am I overthinking it?
[name_f][/name_f]Would a second middle make it flow better or just make it too much or a mouthful?
[name_f][/name_f]What would you suggest as a middle for [name_m]Douglas[/name_m]?

Objectively, it isn’t a real issue! Middle names don’t come up often in daily life, so if [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is your absolutely favourite name, go for it. That said, it would[name_f][/name_f] personally bother me a little to have the first, middle and[name_f][/name_f] last name all end in -s. I think it’s something you have to figure out for yourself if you consider it a dealbreaker or not!

[name_f][/name_f]

I really like [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m]! I think Flynn’s more modern sound goes well with the more retro [name_m]Douglas[/name_m], and the flow is nice. [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] would also flow nicely [name_f][/name_f]- double middles are not my cup of tea, but if they are[name_f][/name_f] yours, why not? [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of folks have two middle names, it’s nothing outlandish!

Thank you for your response! I go back and forth on whether I could be a double middle name person or not. I do really like [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] altogether so maybe that is the solution here. I do like pondering on these non-issues though! :joy:[name_f][/name_f] I do think the three -s endings are bothering me, but maybe I need to sit with it a bit longer to decide if it’s a dealbreaker or not.

I don’t think Douglas Emrys ____s is that bad. If your surname also starts with S, I think it might be too much (something like D- E- Simmons would be tongue-twistery and blend together for me), but in general, it’s not the end of the world. Especially if your surname isn’t also 2 syllables or if it has some “sharper” sounds that might contrast with Douglas Emrys, I don’t think it will be too much. (I used Williams as an example surname in my head and I think D- E- Williams sounds totally fine)

That said, I don’t think you’re overthinking it – it’s totally reasonable to not want all 3 names to end in S – but I personally don’t think it’s worth missing out on your other favorite name for, unless you really think it will always bother you.

I agree that Douglas Emrys Flynn is really nice in full too and could be a nice solution.

Thank you for your response! I might yet come round to 3 s names. I think our surname does throw it a little because it starts with E too. Maybe I just need to change our surname :joy:

it does feel a little heavy on the s’s but like people have said middle names don’t come up that much. with that being said i think [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] or [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] sounds very nice! i really like the double middle name look and flow, as i have one myself.

[name_f][/name_f]

for some middle name suggestions i would say [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Finn[/name_m], [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Gray[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] or maybe [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] would work?

[name_f][/name_f]

anyways i hoped this helped! :pink_heart:

[name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] is very dashing, [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] a little on the sibilant side but still good, and my favourite option has to be BOTH! [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] is incred.

I am leaning towards both too!

[name_m]Douglas[/name_m] is so underrated!!! I would use [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]!

[name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] is so lovely, definitely one for the list!

Douglas Emrys --S could sound cool - like you’ve fully committed to the -s endings - and that kind of makes it work for me?

A second middle could help if the flow of the whole name is very important to you. Douglas Emrys Flynn for example. Or Douglas Emrys Fletcher, Douglas Luca Emrys, Douglas Percy Emrys?

I guess it depends on how often you plan to use his name in full and whether it would feel comfortable to introduce him with three --s names?

A couple more middles:

Douglas Ambrose
Douglas Emil
Douglas Truett
Douglas Orion
Douglas Rowan
Douglas Bennett
Douglas Fabian

Thanks for your reply! I might be coming round to the 3 -s endings after all. Thinking of it as committing to the theme makes me like it more :joy:
[name_f][/name_f]I love these suggestions! [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Luca[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] & [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Percy[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] are gorgeous, and exactly my style!
[name_f][/name_f]I love [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Fabian[/name_m], I’ve been trying to sell my partner on [name_m]Florian[/name_m] but maybe [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] is the way to go. I also really like [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], which is unexpected as I’ve never been sold on [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], but I think it works so well in the middle spot here!
