Dove as a first name?

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_u]Dove[/name_u] as a first name?

The Irish meaning of my maiden name is [name_u]Dove[/name_u], which is why I love this name so much. I feel connected to it.
At the moment, it is the only name that dh and I have consistently agreed on BUT as a middle name. Our naming style with our children is to include a nickname. All of our girls have a longer full name and a two syllable nickname. I’d love to continue this but I feel like I have been over every name out there and nothing is screaming ‘THE ONE’ to me.

I was thinking of the combo [name_u]Dove[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dovie[/name_f]? Or possibly even the nn Birdy but I’m not to sure about that one yet. I’m completely open to suggestions.

I think [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is very usable as a first name!

As a matter of fact, I met a woman named [name_u]Dove[/name_u] and we did consider [name_u]Dove[/name_u] with the nickname [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for our daughter Adeia.

[name_u]Dove[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] would work very well with either Birdy or [name_f]Dovie[/name_f] as a nn. And if the name [name_u]Dove[/name_u] backfires on you (but like I said, I don’t think it will) you could always fall back on [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f].

I love the name [name_u]Dove[/name_u]! People use [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], and a ton of other bird names so I think [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is very usable. I also think of the chocolate brand which adds a sweetness to the name. I like the combination of [name_u]Dove[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]! It has a very foresty nature feel which I think is lovely and the nicknames of [name_f]Dovie[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] (I love [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]) are great

[name_u]Dove[/name_u] is solely a soap/body wash brand here, so it wouldn’t be usable in the UK but elsewhere it’ll probably fit in fine alongside Larks, Wrens, [name_m]Robins[/name_m]/Robyns etc.

I really like it. It’s very sweet.

I think [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is useable, however I don’t like the nicknames Dovey or especially [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. If I was using [name_u]Dove[/name_u], I would just call my daughter [name_u]Dove[/name_u] as the sound is much prettier than the nicknames.

[name_u]Dove[/name_u] is NMS but I love the name [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], which means dove

I was also going to suggest [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] as the legal name…you could always use [name_f]Dovie[/name_f] as a nn.

Here are some additional suggestions for names meaning “dove”:

Of those, I love [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] & Jonina…nns could be [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] & [name_f]Nina[/name_f].

Good luck!

You could also use [name_u]Colombe[/name_u]/[name_f]Colombine[/name_f]/[name_f]Colomba[/name_f]/[name_f]Colombina[/name_f].
I wouldn’t chose [name_u]Dove[/name_u] for my daughter but I’m biaised: [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is a famous brand of body hygiene products here.

I like @bobcat108 suggestions of using [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] or [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], meaning [name_u]Dove[/name_u].
