[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. Yes, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] on a girl. Personally, I feel so sorry for the baby…shell totally be teased in school. I just don’t get the whole boys names on girls. Ughh…
I was disappointed as well they did so well with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and then they went and stuck [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] on a girl I mean not even a full version with the NN [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]!
I personally love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and I am considering it for my own daughter so I was sad when I saw they fell short this time. =[
That is disappointing. I was also a big fan of [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and had hopes for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or some other lovely vintage name. But [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], why not as a nickname. I will never understand the boys names on girls.
Wouldn’t Frances have been wonderful.
Yes, but her name is [name_u]Drew[/name_u]! She obviously doesn’t feel like having a typically male name ruined her life.
I too prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but would totally use [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a [name_f]Frances[/name_f] nickname.
Normally, I would have been disappointed by [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] also. However, it’s [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore. She is a celebrity. Honestly, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is better than a lot of celebrity baby names. Also, she will just be known as “[name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore’s daughter” for her whole life, so it really doesn’t matter what her name is (Okay, that’s not entirely true, but you get the point).
I really dislike both of her girls names. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] would be a cute nn for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], but it doesn’t work on it’s own on a girl. I don’t like olives, so I don’t like that she named her kid that.
I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is a huge improvement over [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
I love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a nn (I love unisex names on girls) but I too would’ve loved it if she used [name_f]Frances[/name_f] b/c that is one of my favorite names, and also vintage like [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. However I think it is funny you guys are all I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and hate [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] b/c unisex names are so common and acceptable now a days, and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is the name of a food, so really I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is the stranger name of the two. (I do see the appeal, just nms).
I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is cute and sorta vintagey, just like big sister [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I knew a [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] growing up, although it was short for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. I think the -ie ending makes it sound feminine. I don’t see anything wrong with it at all.
Plus, as a pp mentioned, her name is [name_u]Drew[/name_u]… and she turned out fine.
I love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]!!! The only thing I would’ve liked better would be if she had chosen [name_f]Frances[/name_f] instead and used [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as the nn, but if they are planning to call her [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] anyway, there’s something to be said for going straight to the preferred name. I’m not a unisex name person in general, but this one I love.
I love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]! Its super cute and not considered uncommon or super masculine here in Australia. I know a couple of little [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]'s and they are just adorable, I like urban edgy feel to it.
I do wish [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] was a nn for [name_f]Frances[/name_f], but I also kinda like that it matches mom’s modern, tom-boyish name.
I will agree with the berry community and wish that [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] was just a nickname for (not [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but) [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. I also don’t particularly like olives, so I am biased against that name. However, I will agree that [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] complements her mothers nickname-ish traditionally male name and I actually do get a similar vibe from [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. To me they are both distinct names and I definitely get an immediate imagery from the names. I sort of actually like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] because of the imagery I get from the name and also because it is miles ahead of [name_m]Pilot[/name_m] Inspektor, [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u], [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] and all those other crazy imaginings of Hollywood. She actually gave her child a name.
I am in the minority, I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is a good complement to [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. While I agree [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] would be fabulous, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is now a typical “stylish” celebrity name. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is much fresher and has much spunk.
And why not with mother named [name_u]Drew[/name_u]? [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is definitely not the worst choice.
I don’t like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], but it’s not THAT bad. Since [name_u]Drew[/name_u] actually lives with male nickname as a name, I guess she doesn’t agree with you. And she actually has something to present as argument - her good life.
Though it’s nms, I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is a cute name for a little girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband had a friend in college who was called [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], even though her given name was [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]. It suited her perfectly – spunky and fun and free-spirited. PPs are right – it’s in line with [name_u]Drew[/name_u]'s unisex-because-it’s-on-a-girl-now name, and the “ie” ending makes it feminine.
Plus, if she’s going to be called [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] anyway, does it really matter what, if anything, it’s short for? I had a student last year whose given name was [name_f]Annie[/name_f], not short for anything. Again, nms, but if that’s what you intend to call the child all the time, why not name them that? And if the child decides, years from now, that she needs a fuller or more serious name, it’s easy enough for her to tell people to call her [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] for that matter.
I really like it. While I’m not a particular fan of the names individually, I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] are great sisters! [name_m]Both[/name_m] of them have an edgy, indie vibe and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is so unexpected- I think it actually freshens [name_f]Olive[/name_f] which has become such a predictable hipster choice. And I know that Berries tend to be very conservative when it comes to nicknames as names, but I have no problem with it.
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] isn’t a boys’ name, it’s a unisex diminutive of many [name_m]Franc[/name_m]- names, as well as [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] “[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]” would have been cuter.
If we don’t teach our children to tease other children because of their names or whatever they won’t be teased, so why not do that instead of making the parents of the child responsible for giving them a name you don’t like.
No one will be teased because of the name [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], that’s just ridiculous, this generation will grow up with the weirdest names and since everyone is so fond of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], isn’t that name even weirder? Still, who cares, both okay names that I find a little mismatched but definitely not terrible names.
And [name_u]Drew[/name_u] is a person who grew up with a “male” name, so apparently she grew up and liked and and wasn’t teased because of it.
I don’t even find [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] that masculine, just nicknamey, I mean it could be short for [name_m]Frank[/name_m] AND [name_f]Frances[/name_f] / [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], a unisex nickname.
I like it and I think it fits with the old fashioned nicknames for fn’s trend and with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I actually know a teenage girl called [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
