So, I’m writing a story involving a swan raised by ducks (who 100% thinks he’s some sort of duck too). There’s also a misfit human princess who is turned into a swan (full-time, no changing back) and taken far from her home. Basically, the two meet and thus begins a journey of self discovery for them both. This is meant to be a story of two misfits finding where they truly belong. Which brings us to the point.
I need names for the one swan’s duck family. His name is Percy, so I’m looking for a similar vibe with the other names. Basically, names that fit ducks, but are also not too out there.
The mother duck is a kind soul who fully accepts her misfit son and is in no rush to push him out of the nest. She’s always known he’s not her biological son, but that doesn’t stop her from treating him like he is.
The sibling ducks can be mean sometimes, but they do love their brother. They are all grown up and have ducklings of their own. I think there are five of the siblings.
One of the duck siblings is incredibly close to Percy. He is his best friend and the majority of the not-so-nice things he says (“Thankfully none of my kids look like you”, for example) are said in jest. He can be a bit insensitive, but this helps balance Percy’s sensitive personality.
Percy’s nieces and nephews are adorable little ducklings that he loves babysitting. There are numerous amounts of them, so many that they probably won’t all end up being named (because most of them will never be referenced by name).
I also need a parents and a younger brother for the princess, who is named Adele Brynmore.
Adele’s mother is a woman who loves the spotlight and can be a bit over-focused on her appearance and reputation. She can also be a bit oblivious to the feelings of her children, but she does care about them.
Adele’s father is a bit of a workaholic. Being king isn’t easy and he takes the job very seriously. He too can be a bit neglectful, but he does try to set aside time to talk to his children.
Adele’s brother is a natural born leader, even at age 15. He listens to people and loves to solve problems. He is quite close to his sister and is very upset when she disappears.
Note: This is a story that takes elements from both The Ugly Duckling and Swan Lake, but with a different focus (Percy’s family is pretty accepting and Adele is not a perfect graceful princess). While Adele’s original plan is to become human again, there’s a part of her that really doesn’t want to, even from the start. And Percy, though he does want to know why he’s so unlike the other ducks, never wants to leave them.
