Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

[name]Kate[/name] and [name]Will[/name] are expecting a little prince or princess (or both). Let the name guessing begin… (how fun)…

I’m really excited to find out the name!
I expect it will be something really really traditional.

[name]Dinah[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

It’ll be super traditional–there’ll probably be at least four names. (Which is fine.) If it’s a girl, I’m sure [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] will be included. If it’s a boy–look for [name]Charles[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Phillip[/name], [name]Henry[/name], etc.

Seeing as the child will be placed after [name]Prince[/name] [name]William[/name] in the line of succession and therefore will be an heir, it’s almost 100% certain that his/her name will be top-traditional.

First name: They could choose to go with the ultra traditional names like [name]George[/name], [name]Richard[/name] or [name]Edward[/name]; [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]. Or they could go with more uncommon yet traditional names like [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Philip[/name], [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Albert[/name]; [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name]. My money are on either [name]George[/name] or [name]Arthur[/name], or [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Victoria[/name].

“Middle names”: As with (almost) every royal baby, the secondary names are probably going to get used to honour family members. A strong contender in my opinion is [name]Francis[/name]/[name]Frances[/name], in a girls name being a replacement for [name]Diana[/name]. [name]Frances[/name] was [name]Diana[/name]'s middle name and [name]Francis[/name] is [name]Michael[/name] Middleton’s middle name. [name]Francis[/name] furthermore has a royal connection in that the father of [name]Queen[/name] [name]Mary[/name], the grandmother of Her [name]Majesty[/name] the [name]Queen[/name], was [name]Francis[/name], the [name]Duke[/name] of Teck. Family names used could be, for a boy: [name]Charles[/name], [name]Louis[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]Philip[/name], for a girl: [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Carole[/name]/[name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Mary[/name].

My (first) guesses for a boy:
[name]George[/name] [name]Charles[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Philip[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Charles[/name] [name]Philip[/name] [name]Francis[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Philip[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Michael[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Philip[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]George[/name] (long-shot)
[name]Albert[/name] [name]Michael[/name] [name]Charles[/name] [name]Philip[/name] (long-shot)

My (first) guesses for a girl:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carole[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Carole[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] (long-shot)
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carole[/name] [name]Diana[/name] (long-shot)
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carole[/name] (long-shot)

I will place my bet on [name]George[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Charles[/name] [name]William[/name] for a boy & [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].

Edited to add that even though I don’t think it will happen I would love the name [name]Richard[/name] to be used I think its due for a comeback!

I’ve gotta say, I kind of hope they have a baby girl. I think that the law that boys are first in line even if they have older sisters was recently struck down, or is (hopefully) going to be. That would be great, especially since [name]William[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]'s kid will follow two kings ([name]Charles[/name] and [name]William[/name]).

Warning: I’m also just geeking out over this. My mom and sister and I made a huge deal out of [name]William[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]'s wedding, just because, politics aside, it’s FUN. They seem like nice people. Wish them all the best.

I’ve gotta say that I kind of hope they don’t go with [name]Elizabeth[/name] for the first name, as it is a little “done”. [name]Victoria[/name]'s very pretty.

Now, I’d like to take a look at the names of [name]Queen[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]'s kids, as she did have nine to choose from.

[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], the [name]Princess[/name] [name]Royal[/name]: [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] would be interesting, if unlikely. [name]Adelaide[/name] was also likely due to her father, [name]Prince[/name] [name]Albert[/name], being [name]German[/name]. [name]William[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] don’t have to worry about honoring other nations.

[name]Albert[/name] [name]Edward[/name]: As much as I love [name]Prince[/name] [name]Albert[/name], the name is very egg-head-ish to me. And [name]Edward[/name] has a somewhat negative connotation today…

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Maud[/name] [name]Mary[/name]: [name]Alice[/name] is lovely, [name]Maud[/name] is dowdy, [name]Mary[/name] is done. I think [name]Alice[/name] could be a strong possibility.

[name]Alfred[/name] [name]Ernest[/name] [name]Albert[/name]: … I don’t like any of these names. But I’m pickier with boy names than girl names.

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]: As unlikely as I find the first two names, I love them! [name]Helena[/name] is gorgeous–it means beautiful–and [name]Augusta[/name] is very classic and regal.

[name]Louise[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alberta[/name]: Not gonna lie, I’d die if they had a kid named [name]Caroline[/name]. Because, you know. It’s my name. Unlikely though.

[name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Albert[/name]: [name]Patrick[/name] will not happen, but it’s a great name. [name]Arthur[/name] seems more likely, and I love it, and I would die, because–[name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]. Come on. That is too great.

[name]Leopold[/name] [name]George[/name] [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Albert[/name]: [name]Leopold[/name] would be great, as it has the cool, modern nickname of [name]Leo[/name]. [name]Duncan[/name]'s a cool name, but I can’t see it on a prince.

[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Feodore[/name]: There’s a none-too-popular [name]Princess[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] around right now, so that won’t happen. None of these–aside from the obvious [name]Victoria[/name]–seem possible.

[name]Arthur[/name] is by far my favorite for a boy, aside from the cool but unlikely [name]Alexander[/name]. Maybe I just want them to have a girl so they have more name options. ([name]Helena[/name] and [name]Augusta[/name] are sentimental favorites but I highly doubt either would happen.) ([name]Caroline[/name]. Come on. [name]Caroline[/name] for the win.)

[name]Edit[/name]: I should also add that royals have a history of calling people by names other than their first names (as we saw in The [name]King[/name]'s Speech) whether they be nicknames or middle names, so who knows what the kid will actually be called. I think it’s kind of cool. Also, the name [name]Alexandra[/name] (granddaughter of [name]Victoria[/name]) is a great name, but if you actually look for the most famous royal the name was given to… It’s [name]Alexandra[/name] Romanov. The last Tsaritsa of [name]Russia[/name]. Who died, as we all know, horribly. So while it’s a beautiful name, another royal [name]Alexandra[/name] might have a bit of gloom to it for some. I don’t mind it, as the Tsaritsa was a fascinating, good woman.

Edited for privacy.

Yikes! My mother wouldn’t name her youngest child [name]Camilla[/name] when suggest because of the negative connotation. I can’t imagine [name]William[/name] even considering that one.

It hasn’t, nothing has been legislated in any of the realms.

The Prime Minister of [name]Britain[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Cameron[/name] has stated that since the heads of government of the 16 Commonwealth realms agreed to change the rules of succession by replacing male preference primogeniture with absolute primogeniture, in which the first born child of a monarch is heir apparent regardless of gender, it is now [name]LAW[/name]. The change would only apply for descendants of the current [name]Prince[/name] of [name]Wales[/name].

If you are referred to the [name]October[/name] meeting it was decided that the British monarchy would have equal primogeniture and royals would be allowed to marry Catholics. So far these changes haven’t been signed into law or discussed properly by any country in the commonwealth. It have to be legislated in all of the realms. Also they did say it could take about 4 years to get it all worked out.

Besides, if [name]Catherine[/name]'s having a boy, this wont even be an issue.

Sorry, I meant it will be. The commonwealth leaders have agreed, just has to be approved by parliament- which it should be. And it’s about time!

Indeed. Her [name]Majesty[/name] is a brilliant example of how women can be just as good leaders as men, maybe better even.

I am so excited for the [name]Duke[/name] and Duchess!! I have been a royals lover since I was little

For a girl, I think the following names are likely to be found somewhere in the mix…

[name]Elizabeth[/name]- Honors [name]Queen[/name], [name]Kate[/name]'s mother and herself
[name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Charlotte[/name]- Honors [name]Prince[/name] [name]Charles[/name], [name]Carole[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name] Middleton
[name]Frances[/name]- Honors [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Michael[/name] Middleton

For a boy…

[name]Charles[/name]- Same as [name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]- A nod to [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Prince[/name] [name]Philip[/name], and [name]William[/name]
[name]George[/name]- [name]King[/name] [name]George[/name], the [name]Queen[/name]'s father and an underused classic royal name
[name]William[/name]- No brainer

I know [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Diana[/name] will be in the girls’ name somewhere, and I wouldn’t be surprised if [name]Victoria[/name] shows up.

For a boy, definitely [name]Charles[/name], [name]Philip[/name] and [name]William[/name].

I think if anyone can take an ultra-traditional name ([name]George[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], etc.) and make it sound modern and hip, it’s the Cambridges.

I’m hoping for a little [name]Prince[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Philip[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] [name]George[/name], or a princess [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Alice[/name], with middle names on both in no particular order.

I’m hoping for a new spin on a traditional name. Like [name]Georgiana[/name] for [name]George[/name]. There aren’t that many names the BRF uses that aren’t in use right now. I don’t think they’ll use [name]Elisabeth[/name] since the [name]Queen[/name] is still alive and doesn’t like children being named after her. Might be used for a middle name though…

Boys names are really hard, I guess the pretty much only ones available (or aren’t in use) are [name]George[/name], [name]Albert[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name]

[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Albert[/name]
