[name]Just[/name] curious as to what Berries think about [name]Dulcinea[/name]. Send forth your opinions.
I like it! [name]Dulcie[/name] would be a really cute nickname.
[name]Dulcie[/name] is a guilty pleasure of mine so I like the name [name]Dulcinea[/name]. It’s rarely chosen as a first name but has a wonderful literary connection as a character in [name]Miguel[/name] de Cervantes’ novel “[name]Don[/name] [name]Quixote[/name]”. I think it’s pretty, feminine, lyrical and romantic. The only drawback: English speakers may concentrate on the “DUL” and pronounce it like “DULL” instead of the Spanish “DOOL”. I love [name]Dulcie[/name] and if it wasn’t for the first syllable, I think the name would give [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Hattie[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] a run for their money.
I think it’s just a little too sweet. Like naming a kid “Sweetarina” or something.
Sweetarina! shrieks of laughter I don’t know if I fully agree, but that comment just made my day.
I personally love Dulcinea because I love “Man of La Mancha” (Ive never read Don Quixote, so I dont know much about the book version). Renato Braz does a beautiful version of the song “Dulcinea”!
The fact that Dulcinea is supposedly the ideal women and Sophia Loren portrayed her makes it an even better name imo.
Here’s a link to the version of the song Im referring too Renato Braz - Dulcinéa - YouTube the words in English are very beautiful too, especially the part "I have dreamed thee too long, Never seen thee or touched thee. But known thee with all of my heart. Half a prayer, half a song, Thou hast always been with me, Though we have been always apart. " Seems very thoughful and beautiful in regard to expecting a baby
FYI - [name]Don[/name] [name]Quixote[/name] and [name]Man[/name] of the La Mancha are one and the same.
Gasp Be still my heart! Thanks so much for posting the link to that version of the song, thetxbelle! The breathy flute is a nice addition but wow the voice and accent ((heartthrob))
I’m pretty familiar with the story, also mainly through the musical because for some reason I’ve never read the book. Now that I think of it I’m kind of surprised, because it seems like the kind of book I would enjoy. I’ll have to check it out.
[name]Mischa[/name], you may be right about the DULL sound. It just sort of struck me that with the vintage nn possibilities, it’s the kind of name that seems like it would be popular (or at least seen) around here. I was curious whether the book or musical made people against it, meaning, sound, what it was.
It sure is prettier pronounced DOOL rather than DULL. I’m gonna have to go listen to that song some more… ahhhhhhhh…
I think it’s pretty but hard to pull off. Dull is part of that but also just a mouthful. Reminds me of the Toad the Wet Sprocket album as well as [name]Don[/name] [name]Quixote[/name].
You’re welcome To be honest, I love that song and the lyrics so much that I would consider using it, I would love to have a little girl and be able to say thats how I felt about her. I think if it was my name any comments about the “dull” part could be overlooked if I knew I was given a beautiful name with great references and that song to go along with it. Here’s a page I found for people considering this name http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/suitability_of_Dulcinea.html
I think it depends on your last name… Would go with a very traditional middle name.
I don’t think its too sweet, and I do like the nn [name]Dulcie[/name]. Its unusual but not unusable, and has some great history, so I’d say go for it
I think [name]Dulce[/name], [name]Dulcea[/name], or [name]Dulcia[/name] would be better. [name]Dulcinea[/name], like someone said, is a mouthfull. [name]IMO[/name], it just doesn’t sound that pretty to my ears, sorry.
I personally think its kind of heart stoppingly wonderful, song and story and meaning and all but I think honestly, most people in real life would pronounce it DULL-sin-aya which is a lot less wonderful. [name]Even[/name] if you preference towards the “Dool” pronunciation you (and she) will be forever correcting people which is kind of tiresome.
