Eamon, Reuben & Theodore MNs?

So, we’re down to our top three boy names. They are appealing to us for various reasons, primarily because they are all handsome and vintage names that are uncommon in Australia, where we live.

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] - It has no nickname, but is very handsome as it is and probably doesn’t require shortening. It is very unusual. In fact, I’m not sure if it’s TOO unusual. I couldn’t find any Australian data on it’s ranking. Hmmm, could this be an issue? [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is also DH’s favourite.

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - It has great nicknames, “Reubs” or “[name_m]Benny[/name_m]”. It’s unusual, but still familiar. It ranked #115 in 1900 and currently sits at #158. The sandwich connection that I’ve been made aware of by US Berries doesn’t affect us, as there’s no such thing as a reuben sandwich in Australia (at least I’ve never heard of one!)

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the nickname [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] but am lukewarm on [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I don’t mind it, though. It has that “old-man” feel while still being boyish. From the data, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ranked #135 in 1910 and is currently #186. However, I’m worried it will become chart climber. I currently know of two or three baby Theodores, but none that are closely related to us.

Our daughter’s name is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and I feel that the above names suit her nicely. They all seem to hail from the same era and sound nice when said aloud together.

So, my two questions are:

  1. What name is your favourite? [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]?

  2. What middle name would you pair with your choice? I prefer more classic names for MNs and don’t mind if they are common (which is the case with [name_f]Grace[/name_f]). Some ideas we’ve had include [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m].

P.S. I’m sorry for all my posts over the last couple of days. The pregnancy hormones are kicking in and I’m in serious name-finding mode!

I love [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]! I’ve thought about putting it on my list, but I am a little bummed about the nickname situation. I love using nicknames!

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] would be my favorite combo! Good luck! Naming boys is so hard!

Maybe because I was born in [name_m]Perth[/name_m] but [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] (Eamon Sullivan - Wikipedia). So an not unheard of name

I prefer [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!

freckles4819, I agree. Nicknames are great and I’m a bit sad there isn’t an option for [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] (not that I can come up with, anyway.) [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] flows well, thanks for the suggestion. Naming boys is a lot more difficult than I first thought!

maryharris, I also thought of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. I guess that could work in our favour in terms of making the name more familiar to people. I also like the combo of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I think having a three-syllable boy’s name works well with our three-syllable [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

It will be interesting to find out in about 15 weeks what gender bubs will be. We’re pretty set on [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] for a girl, with MN [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. But…the boy name continues to allude us.

Great names! And I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]; we like [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u], but for you, I think maybe [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] or even [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] which uses two top names!

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is also great and goes best as [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m].

Whilst [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a nice name, I think I hear it much too much on nameberry and it’s becoming a bit blah to me. I also think that it doesn’t share the same charm as [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]… But it’s probably just my opinion!
Good luck

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is a great name
I can see what you mean about is being unfamiliar to people but I think that it’s pronunciation is pretty clear
Some MN suggestions
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
But I think the suggestion of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is really cute!
Good luck!

I love the idea of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], even more so when I think of him as a brother to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. It’s a solid, timeless, handsome choice.

From your list I would choose [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. You can call him Aimes but not sure how you would spell it if you wanted to…

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is so popular on here but I think it is just ok.

I also like
[name_m]Truman[/name_m]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Deacon[/name_m]

grackym, thank you for suggesting [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I didn’t even consider combining two of our favourite names! They flow quite nicely. Choosing that combo would be a good compromise, seeing as DH is in love with [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and I have a name crush on [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] works as well?

gr19, I like to think that [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is fairly clear in terms of phonetics. When I first saw it and read it aloud, I got it right, so I’m hoping others would do the same.

southern.maple, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a timeless choice. He does match [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] perfectly!

cengel73, Aimes as a nickname is pretty cool and seems the logical step in terms of a NN. I’d probably spell it [name_m]Eames[/name_m], although does that seem to say “eeeeems” with the accent on the ‘e’, rather than “aims” with the accent on the ‘a’? That’s a tricky one. I think I need to do some more Googling of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and see what I can find. Thank you also for the suggestions of [name_m]Truman[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] and [name_m]Deacon[/name_m].

Overall, I think the combinations I’m loving most are:

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]

Again, I really appreciate the feedback from everyone. It was the input of Berries that helped me make the decision about [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]'s name. I constantly receive compliments about her name. I’m hoping to do the same this time around

angiemif, I’m glad we’ve been able to help you get somewhere-boys names can be hard.

I think [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] does go well together and you could definitely use the [name_m]Eames[/name_m] spelling as a nn for [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]. I prefer no nickname for [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] only because most [name_f]Amy[/name_f]'s I know have the nn Ames… But wait and see what comes naturally

I’m not sure how [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is pronounced but it looks rather appealing. I’ve always like [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] so I think either that or [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] would be my top choice. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]'s such a lovely name but its getting too popular.

I love the suggestion of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]!

My favorite is [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], so handsome. It is very uncommon but the pronunciation is easy to figure out and remember so I don’t think it’s a problem.

I like [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]

just wanted to chime in here, don’t count on people being able to pronounce [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] correctly. In my experience, people tend to go for an “ee-mon” before “Ay-mon”. After 24 years, I honestly just assume that people will get it wrong.
