Echo <3

The name has been on my list since I was probably 14, and I discarded it because I was told that I’d change my mind when I was older. Nope, I still love it!

I love the story behind it, and no I do not find it masculine! [name_u]Echo[/name_u] was a girl in the story, and since that is the only association I have with it. I can NOT see it on a little boy.

I do see the teasing potential, and I got a lot of it! With my name rhyming with [name_u]America[/name_u], and my last name being a very lame sport… Yes, it sucked, but it got old and no longer bothered me.

I [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Echo[/name_u]…

[name_f]My[/name_f] questions are:

What sister name could possible stand next to hers and not feel “less than”? ([name_m]Say[/name_m] it was an identical twin)

I was thinking [name_f]Maia[/name_f]?

Can you see a little [name_u]Echo[/name_u] beyond 6 years old?

What middle names would you pair with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]?

What would your first reaction be if you met an [name_u]Echo[/name_u]?

Oh, [name_u]Echo[/name_u] is absolutely gorgeous! I have hear that people say its a dog’s name but [name_f]Bella[/name_f] & [name_u]Max[/name_u] are too so I dont understand why.
I would be very pleased if I met an [name_u]Echo[/name_u].

A sister for [name_u]Echo[/name_u] :

[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Io[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] / [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]

Im so glad you like it! I was thinking [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Psyche[/name_f], but decided that was probably too much! That, and I am not greek…

What sister name could possible stand next to hers and not feel “less than”? ([name_m]Say[/name_m] it was an identical twin)

If [name_u]Echo[/name_u] had a sister I would choose a name that is also a quite common word.
[name_f]Maia[/name_f] would be way too normal next to a sister named [name_u]Echo[/name_u] (to me at least).

Can you see a little [name_u]Echo[/name_u] beyond 6 years old?

Yes.

What middle names would you pair with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]?

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
something sweet, soft and girly

(But I would actually make [name_u]Echo[/name_u] the middle name)

What would your first reaction be if you met an [name_u]Echo[/name_u]?

I’d find it pretty weird since [name_u]Echo[/name_u] is a word which is being used in various languages (either the spelling or the sound) and in many countries word names are not the norm.
So if she ever travelled outside an english speaking country, she’d be the girl with the “strange” name.

I’m just telling you that because a “[name_u]Hero[/name_u]” or a “[name_u]True[/name_u]” might sound odd to a foreigner who is familiar with English but since they don’t exist in their own language, it’s less weird than actually calling somebody by a word you’re used to (since word names are pretty rare in a lot of languages). That’s also the reason why I think [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is too common as a sister to [name_u]Echo[/name_u].

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], [name_f]Andromache[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_u]Demeter[/name_u]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Femke[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Sabra[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Clotilde[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Vesta[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Tempest[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Lida[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_u]Idris[/name_u]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Tavia[/name_f]

Oh, [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] are so adorable!! But I think [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] is a little bit of weird too.

A middle name for [name_u]Echo[/name_u] :
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the pp suggestion of [name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]!!

Maybe :

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

I’ve known a couple Echos in my time, so it works well as a girls name for me.

I actually like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f] as a sibset. There is also [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] or [name_f]Caia[/name_f]. I think they sound nice together. Here are a couple that might be more on par.

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & Aysu – might be too out there, but is a female name from turkey meaning [name_f]Moon[/name_f] Water. I love it.
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Sula[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] &Maella – Mah-el-luh
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Calantha[/name_f] or [name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Behati[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Thais[/name_f] or Thaissa – [name_m]Tah[/name_m]-ees / [name_m]Tah[/name_m]-eeh-uh

I really like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Thais[/name_f].

opheliaflora:
I [name_f]Do[/name_f] like the suggestion of [name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and agree that a soft/sweet middle name would be best! thank you

Bibliophile:
I like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Viola[/name_f] as a pair, but don’t love [name_f]Viola[/name_f] as a name…

Bellrose:
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Calla[/name_f]! [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lilies[/name_f] are my favorite flower, but I am not fond of tgw nickname “[name_u]Cali[/name_u] or [name_f]Calli[/name_f]”

Aym:
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is darling! And I have a new love for the name [name_f]Helena[/name_f]

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] has been on my gp list for a long time. I go back and forth on whether I think it’s usable in real life but I love the story behind it & the sound! A good sisters name would have to be strong & be able to stand on it’s own. Something like…

Names from Greek Mythology:
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]- would stand up against [name_u]Echo[/name_u], but could be too ‘themey’
[name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
[name_f]Pallas[/name_f]
[name_f]Niobe[/name_f]

Other names that could stand up to [name_u]Echo[/name_u]:
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Amoret[/name_f]
[name_u]Artis[/name_u]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Citlali[/name_f]
[name_u]Clove[/name_u]
[name_f]Dulce[/name_f]
[name_f]Faline[/name_f]
[name_f]Hala[/name_f]
[name_f]Halona[/name_f]
[name_f]Indah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
Millaray
[name_f]Nera[/name_f]
[name_f]Nere[/name_f]/[name_f]Nerea[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f]
[name_f]Oriel[/name_f]
[name_u]Pascale[/name_u]
[name_f]Persis[/name_f]
[name_f]Priya[/name_f]
[name_f]Suri[/name_f]
[name_m]Tallis[/name_m]
[name_f]Verena[/name_f]
[name_f]Vevina[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Yara[/name_f]
[name_f]Yesenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelie[/name_f]

I love love [name_u]Echo[/name_u] but I love it more for a middle with a more normal first – [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] [name_u]Echo[/name_u] say – or even a more unusual first but with an easy nickname – [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] [name_u]Echo[/name_u] maybe.

What sister name could possible stand next to hers and not feel “less than”? ([name_m]Say[/name_m] it was an identical twin) To be answered at the bottom.

I was thinking [name_f]Maia[/name_f]? I like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Maia[/name_f]

Can you see a little [name_u]Echo[/name_u] beyond 6 years old? I can’t see one over 15.

What middle names would you pair with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]? To be answered at the bottom

What would your first reaction be if you met an [name_u]Echo[/name_u]? I love it and I’d be very happy and gushy about it

Sisters:

I think plenty of the more out there mythology names could work as sisters:

[name_u]Hero[/name_u] & [name_u]Echo[/name_u] – if you don’t mind the rhyme
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] & [name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Thalassa[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Asteria[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & Soteria
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] & Pandia … I could give you just TONS of mythology names to use (I’m the local pagan priestess afterall :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve got just oodles)

For middles – I would go with something more normal/less unusual for her to fall back on in case:

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] – though this might be too wordy
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] – but maybe too much Greek mythology in one name :stuck_out_tongue:
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

And I think [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] as too wordy together. [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] being a word used to describe the mind/soul etc.

[name_u]Echo[/name_u] is one of only 5 names my DH likes for baby #4 due in may. I really like it non berries find this name very strange. I think [name_f]Maia[/name_f] would be a great sister name.

i love [name_u]Echo[/name_u], but could only use it if I felt names that weren’t stuck with a theme could stand with it.

Been thinking:
[name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mignonette[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Elektra[/name_f] (?)
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (Too much mythology…??)
[name_f]Nastassia[/name_f] (Stassi)

Would it bother you if one kid’s name was short, and the other really long?

It wouldn’t bother me if they sounded nice together. [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] sound great together, so do [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. I don’t think a ton of people actually realize that [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is from Greek mythology, so I think most people will see a literary name and a mythology name.

[name_f]Maia[/name_f] – I like these together. They’re both complimentary in size and both vowel heavy but different vowels.
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] – I like these two together
[name_f]Mignonette[/name_f] – This is fun to say isn’t it? I think they’re too different, but this would make a fun middle.
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] – [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Aria[/name_f] would be sweet together, [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] are nice, [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] are lovely, [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] are beautiful…but for some reason I don’t like [name_u]Echo[/name_u] & [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f].
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] – These names clash to me. I know most people think of HP with [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], but I think of the star in [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. I like both names individually but I don’t like the weird clash between the vowel heavy [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and the CHK and T sounds in [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f].
[name_f]Elektra[/name_f] – I really dislike [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]. I like the mythological character fine (all of them), but I have a lot of schooling in psychology and it makes me think of [name_f]Electra[/name_f] Complex, a child’s psychosexual competition with her mother for possession of her father. A young girl’s desire to sleep with her father. It’s the girl version of the [name_m]Oedipus[/name_m] complex. I know most people won’t think of it, but I do. Aside from that, I just don’t think they sound good together.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (Too much mythology…??) – See my comments up there about [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. And I think they sound great together
[name_f]Nastassia[/name_f] (Stassi) – I don’t like this name in general, makes me think of nasty, and I don’t like it with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] nn Stassi could work

I love, love [name_u]Echo[/name_u]! I was actually thinking about the name today and was meaning to start a thread on it! Anyway, I think it has such a lovely sound and look to it, and it’s a shame that it is a common word. I could see myself using it, but realistically, it’ll probably stay GP or middle name. I’ve seen TV shows with featuring a teenage [name_u]Echo[/name_u] as well as an adult [name_u]Echo[/name_u], so I could see it growing up.

[b]What sister name could possible stand next to hers and not feel “less than”? ([name_m]Say[/name_m] it was an identical twin)

I was thinking [name_f]Maia[/name_f]?[/b] I agree with pp; [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is nice but it’s way too normal next to [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Aya[/name_f], [name_f]Amaia[/name_f], or [name_f]Jaya[/name_f]?

Can you see a little [name_u]Echo[/name_u] beyond 6 years old? Yep, totally. In part thanks to Dollhouse.

What middle names would you pair with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]? Something girly and longish, and relatively “normal.” Maybe…
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

What would your first reaction be if you met an [name_u]Echo[/name_u]? Something to the effect of “wow, that is awesome. What cool parents.” And then I’d try to find out [name_u]Echo[/name_u]‘s siblings’ names.

As for sibling names, I second the suggestions of [name_u]Adair[/name_u] and [name_u]Hero[/name_u]. Others that I think stand up to [name_u]Echo[/name_u]:
Alais
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Avis[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Neve[/name_f]/[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Nydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Renata[/name_f]
[name_f]Rilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Xena[/name_f]
[name_f]Yvaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]

Aaaand second post for the more recent ideas.

[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] - I kinda like it with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. The length difference bothers me a little.
[name_f]Mignonette[/name_f] - Eh. Same weirdness level, but it’s a bit too cutesy and [name_m]French[/name_m] next to the boldness of [name_u]Echo[/name_u].
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] - Another one I kinda like. Again, slight length issues.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - The “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]” part feels too girly next to [name_u]Echo[/name_u].
[name_f]Elektra[/name_f] (?) - I woud really like this with [name_u]Echo[/name_u], but they have too many of the same sounds.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (Too much mythology…??) - Pretty good with [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite of your pairings.
[name_f]Nastassia[/name_f] (Stassi) - Same as [name_f]Mignonette[/name_f].
