[name_m]Ed[/name_m] is a name that’s very special to me. My family and I call ourselves the Eds, mainly because for a long time my parents owned an inflatable elk head they named Elk [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. Sadly, Elk [name_m]Ed[/name_m] was destroyed by our cat not too long ago, but that’s beside the point. Another reason the name [name_m]Ed[/name_m] is special to me is because my parents decided not to find out what gender I was, and before I was born referred to me mainly as [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] is my father’s middle name as well.
I’d like to honor that by using the name [name_m]Ed[/name_m] somehow. However, I’m not actually a fan of just [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] as a nickname is fine, as well as some of the longer versions of [name_m]Ed[/name_m] ([name_m]Edmund[/name_m], etc.). I was curious… Which longer version of [name_m]Ed[/name_m] is your favorite? Can you think of some that aren’t the most traditional way to get [name_m]Ed[/name_m]? Which version do you think fits best with the names in my signature? If you were me, would you use a version of [name_m]Ed[/name_m] as a first or middle name? And if you’d use it as a middle, which first name would you pair it with (from my signature or feel free to suggest a different first)?
You obviously don’t have to answer all of those questions. Thanks in advance, fellow name nerds!
The obvious ones I think of are [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Edwin[/name_m].
[name_m]Zed[/name_m]
[name_m]Zedekiah[/name_m]
[name_u]Edan[/name_u]
[name_m]Edison[/name_m] - This would be my favorite because it means son of [name_m]Edward[/name_m].
[name_m]Cedrick[/name_m]
I never found a longer version of [name_m]Ed[/name_m] that I liked enough to use as a first name. I did have [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] on my list for a long while until we decided to use family middle names. I do like [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] best because of [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u]. It sounds smart and sensitive while still sounding strong. Maybe [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]?
What about using [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] or [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Ed[/name_m] instead of [name_m]Fred[/name_m]? Or maybe using a feminine form like [name_f]Edna[/name_f] or [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] because the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f] sounds like you’re spelling out [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] are my two favorite forms. I agree with the previous poster that you could essentially find any name with “[name_m]Ed[/name_m]” in it somewhere and consider that for the long form.
My favourites are [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (on my list as [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Kasimir[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]) and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. I also really like [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Eduard[/name_m]/[name_m]Edouard[/name_m].
[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] Eds:
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Edric[/name_m]
[name_m]Edsel[/name_m]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
Edmee
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] are my two favourites
I like [name_m]Edmond[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edison[/name_m], [name_m]Elden[/name_m], [name_m]Ned[/name_m], [name_m]Neddy[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Eduardo[/name_m], Medford, [name_m]Redford[/name_m], [name_m]Fred[/name_m], [name_m]Fredric[/name_m], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m].
I also love Bedford and Edsel and Edwina and Edie.
