Edna ? ...ways to get to Edna

So I’ve been going back and forth on this one. The name itself doesn’t have much frilly-ness to it as I’d like, but there are two reasons I haven’t been able to totally dismiss it. One, it’s a family name…a great-aunt; and two, one of my favorite movies that’s based on a true story of a woman named [name_f]Edna[/name_f] Gladney (?) from [name_u]Texas[/name_u] whose life’s work was caring for children and putting unwanted/“illegitimate” children in good homes. She was a fighter, and I love that about her character.

…but from comments I’ve seen on another site, [name_f]Edna[/name_f] hasn’t been very appealing to others. So I guess I’m wondering if there’s another name I could use with [name_f]Edna[/name_f] working as a nickname? Or if [name_f]Edna[/name_f] is the given name, what middle names do you think would work?

Open to anything really.

P.S. The movie I’m referring to is called “Blossoms in the Dust” with [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_m]Garson[/name_m] (1941).

I am not coming up with many ideas yet sorry
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]/[name_u]Eden/name_u
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edina[/name_f]

[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]? [name_f]Enid[/name_f]? [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]?

I think [name_f]Edna[/name_f] is a great name, strong and lively. Go for it!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about using [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and a middle name beginning with n.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Nadine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]

Alternatively, you could stick it in the middle spot, that way you still get the honouring and could still tell her the story

Greer or Blossom would get you the movie connection although not the connection to the real woman or your great aunt

Or…
[name_f]Edana[/name_f]
[name_f]Edeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Edina[/name_f]
[name_f]Edene[/name_f]
[name_f]Ednisha[/name_f]- I know, really unappealing but I’d thought it give you all your options
[name_f]Edona[/name_f]
[name_f]Edvina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ednita[/name_f]
[name_f]Edin[/name_f] or [name_f]Edyn[/name_f]

That’s alright, thank you very much  I actually love [name_f]Edie[/name_f], was thinking that might be a cute nickname for [name_f]Edna[/name_f] if I go with it :stuck_out_tongue: [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] as well.

Aww  It’s funny, the more I think about it, the more I’m loving it… especially with the connections it has for me. Thank you so, so much!!

Btw, love [name_f]Eluned[/name_f] too

Ooo what a great idea! My middle name is [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] that’s kinda cool… [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]… hmmm…
Thanks!!

Lol, funny, I really like the name [name_f]Greer[/name_f] also, but I thought it’d be weird to have a character name with the actress as a sibset. :stuck_out_tongue: but thank you very much for your suggestions, kinda like the look of [name_f]Edeline[/name_f], but how would you pronounce it? “[name_m]Ed[/name_m]-line” or “ed-[name_f]EL[/name_f]-ine” or something else? [name_f]Edina[/name_f]'s pretty too.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions

Also, update… a friend of mine suggested [name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], loving it a bit. But it sounds like it’d be a better double-barrel name as opposed to a first and middle… any ideas for a middle name that would go with [name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]? What do you think?

I actually adore the name [name_f]Edna[/name_f] whole-heartedly. I think it’s overlooked and easily dismissed, when really, it fits into the current trend of short, snappy, spunky sounding names ([name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f]) and vintage names ([name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], etc).

Not to mention, there were 91 little [name_f]Edna[/name_f]'s (I believe) registered in the US last year, and another 9 in [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m], so it IS in fact being used, quite steadily in the US (it often sits between 75 and 100 births per year).

I have [name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] on my list, but I also like:

[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Tulip[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

and if you want [name_f]Edna[/name_f] _____ [name_f]Rose[/name_f], how about:

[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I recommend a more current, feminine middle name, but I don’t see why you couldn’t use [name_f]Edna[/name_f] on it’s own, it’s not intended to be a nickname for anything, and there are very, very few (if any), names that it could work as a nickname for.

I would just use [name_f]Edna[/name_f], personally  Especially when you have a connection to it!
