Eeeeeek! hubby agreed to Clementine! questions!

oh em gee my husband actually likes [name]Clementine[/name]! im quite excited about this…i thought it was a long shot presenting it to him on a piece of paper…but he likes it! ive loved [name]Clementine[/name] since seeing it on nameberry and learning u can prn it as clemen-teen, i dont mind if it gets prn clemen-tyne occasionally but i prefer the first way…so anywho i have some questions! i feel like its a daring choice for me so i still have our safe name in my pocket

  • is it too out there of a name for an American girl (we currently live in [name]Texas[/name] and may move back to Southern [name]California[/name] in the next 5 yrs)

  • is it just too long of a name for a poor little child to deal with? (its 1 letter longer than my sons but his name is more common…)

  • is it odd with my sibset? [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Clementine[/name]

  • is it English or Spanish looking (our last name is like Martinez and i want the first name to be “American sounding” to balance everything out and represent her mixed heritage

  • our safe name is [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Noelani[/name], is it just plain better? ( i picked a shorter mn for [name]Clementine[/name]…[name]Kale[/name]'a prn kuh-leh-uh means joy in hawaiian)

  • nickname options? [name]Clemmie[/name] is ok, Dont like [name]Clem[/name]…dont think we’d call her [name]Cleo[/name]…[name]Emmy[/name] seems like a long shot…hmmm

aaahhh sorry so long…so [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kale[/name]'a yes or no?

  • is it too out there of a name for an American girl (we currently live in [name]Texas[/name] and may move back to Southern [name]California[/name] in the next 5 yrs)
I’m not American, so I can’t really help you with this one!

  • is it just too long of a name for a poor little child to deal with? (its 1 letter longer than my sons but his name is more common…)
I don’t think so, as it’s fairly phonetic and if she uses a nickname when she’s little it will be easier anyway.

  • is it odd with my sibset? [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Clementine[/name]
    Nope, I love this sibset!

  • is it English or Spanish looking (our last name is like Martinez and i want the first name to be “American sounding” to balance everything out and represent her mixed heritage.
Definitely more on the English side. I wouldn’t associate it with Spanish at all.

  • our safe name is [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Noelani[/name], is it just plain better? ( i picked a shorter mn for [name]Clementine[/name]…[name]Kale[/name]'a prn kuh-leh-uh means joy in hawaiian)
    I prefer [name]Clementine[/name] to [name]Daphne[/name], and [name]Noelani[/name] to [name]Kale[/name]'a! [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Noelani[/name]?

  • nickname options? [name]Clemmie[/name] is ok, Dont like [name]Clem[/name]…dont think we’d call her [name]Cleo[/name]…[name]Emmy[/name] seems like a long shot…hmmm
    [name]Tina[/name]? (Dated, I know, but still cute…) [name]Minty[/name]? [name]Mina[/name]?

aaahhh sorry so long…so [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kale[/name]'a yes or no?
Yes to [name]Clementine[/name], but I prefer it with the middle name [name]Noelani[/name].

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

  • I don’t think it is too out there. Especially if you live in that area since I get both a Southern [name]Bell[/name] and a bit of a laid back So.[name]Cal[/name] feel about it.

  • Most of the time it is better to focus on syllables than length, and this one is only three syllables. Which basically means when you say it the name is no longer than [name]Diana[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], or [name]Isabella[/name] (actually only two letters longer than [name]Victoria[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name] both of which are very common in their full forms). So no, I wouldn’t worry about it.

  • [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] are perfect together.

  • [name]Clementine[/name] definitely looks English to me, but still sounds good with a Spanish last name.

  • [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Noelani[/name] just doesn’t have the same ring to it. It looks a bit clustered, [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kale[/name]'a just looks happier. (which yes sounds insane, but you are talking to name nerds…we think like this) And I tend to prefer when first names and middle names end with different sounds anyway so “ine/a” trumps “e/i”

  • As for nicknames. I agree, [name]Clemmy[/name] and [name]Clem[/name] aren’t the most attractive choices.I don’t think [name]Emmy[/name] is too much of a long shot. [name]Mina[/name] could work. But generally unless I think the nick name should happen naturally, especially with a name that has no set nick name.

Basically I think [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kale[/name]'a is a keeper!

[name]Hi[/name]. I love [name]Clementine[/name]. I have always pronounced it [name]Clem[/name]-en-tyne, But I [name]LOVE[/name] the [name]Clem[/name]-en-teen even more!! Super cute!
I also love the name [name]Daphne[/name] so either way you’ve got a winner of a name!
I live in [name]Canada[/name] so not use how American it is. I’ve never met a [name]Clementine[/name] or a [name]Daphne[/name] so they are definetly under-used names!
Sorry but not sure I like either of the middle names you’ve chosen. If you love them then go for it though! COngrats on the baby girl!!

[name]Clementine[/name] is such a great name! I have heard that it is more popular in [name]England[/name] than the US and you might get the occasional “huh, interesting” as a response, but I think it would fit great in [name]Texas[/name]/SoCal culture, like someone already commented. And it totally goes great with [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]! With nicknames…why do you need a nickname to clementine? Beautiful name so stick to it

What about the nn Cece? Its not obvious, but I think it fits better than emmy.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]! I think it is a really refreshing name, one gets so tired of hearing the same name over and over. I like the nn of [name]Cleo[/name] too, very vintage, great match too with [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] (beautiful names btw).

I am an Aussie so I can’t judge the reception over there, however, I think it is a great choice.

regards,

rollo

  • is it too out there of a name for an American girl (we currently live in [name]Texas[/name] and may move back to Southern [name]California[/name] in the next 5 yrs)

I think its a well enough known name you should be fine. I can’t speak for [name]Texas[/name], but you will definitely be fine with a [name]Clementine[/name] in SoCal.

  • is it just too long of a name for a poor little child to deal with?

Not at all. I agree with pp the syllables matter more and this name rolls off the tongue.

  • is it odd with my sibset? [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Clementine[/name]

Very cute sibset.

  • is it English or Spanish looking (our last name is like Martinez and i want the first name to be “American sounding” to balance everything out and represent her mixed heritage.

It’s not Spanish looking to me, I find it a very American name.

  • our safe name is [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Noelani[/name], is it just plain better? ( i picked a shorter mn for [name]Clementine[/name]…[name]Kale[/name]'a prn kuh-leh-uh means joy in hawaiian)

I like the name [name]Daphne[/name] too. Neither of the middle names really jump out at me or are my style. But if you love [name]Clementine[/name] more than [name]Daphne[/name] definitely use it.

  • nickname options? [name]Clemmie[/name] is ok, Dont like [name]Clem[/name]…dont think we’d call her [name]Cleo[/name]…[name]Emmy[/name] seems like a long shot…

I like [name]Cleo[/name] and [name]Mina[/name] best for a nn.

  • is it too out there of a name for an American girl (we currently live in [name]Texas[/name] and may move back to Southern [name]California[/name] in the next 5 yrs)
No, not at all. [name]Clementine[/name] is more American than it is anything else, right? (Thanks, [name]Steven[/name] [name]Foster[/name]). I live in So [name]Cal[/name]. If you want something that’s not “out there” you’ll have to go with [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Emma[/name], or live dangerously and pick a bible name. Honestly… I’m not impressed with baby names here AT ALL! People haven’t even heard of my daughter’s names before… [name]Jocelyn[/name]. Really? So all that to say, no, there probably won’t be many Clementines around, but her friends will all be jealous she doesn’t have to tack an initial to her name to tell her apart.

  • is it just too long of a name for a poor little child to deal with? (its 1 letter longer than my sons but his name is more common…)
I don’t think so. It’s just as long as [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], etc, and shorter than [name]Elizabeth[/name].

  • is it odd with my sibset? [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Clementine[/name]
Ahhh!!! That is an ADORABLE sibset! swoon

  • is it English or Spanish looking (our last name is like Martinez and i want the first name to be “American sounding” to balance everything out and represent her mixed heritage
I think it’s kind of a mix pronounced with the TEEN ending

  • our safe name is [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Noelani[/name], is it just plain better? ( i picked a shorter mn for [name]Clementine[/name]…[name]Kale[/name]'a prn kuh-leh-uh means joy in hawaiian)
I like [name]Clementine[/name] better! I don’t think [name]Daphne[/name] is more used at all, at least not here.

  • nickname options? [name]Clemmie[/name] is ok, Dont like [name]Clem[/name]…dont think we’d call her [name]Cleo[/name]…[name]Emmy[/name] seems like a long shot…hmmm
    I can’t think of any? [name]Tina[/name] or [name]Minnie[/name]?

aaahhh sorry so long…so [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kale[/name]'a yes or no?
I don’t personally like that they both start with a “K” sound. I think [name]Noelani[/name] is gorgeous, but it is a mouthful with [name]Clementine[/name]

Good luck!

And off topic, I’m always confused when people refer to Southern Californians as “laid back”. yes, there are surfers by the coast, but in general they are about the least laid-back people I’ve ever seen, and I’ve lived tons of places… I mean, have you ever seen a californian drive??

OK, done with my hijack.

thanks everyone for the feedback  im loving [name]Clementine[/name] even more now…im not too worried about the nickname as someone mentioned that doesnt need to be set before shes born and [name]Clementine[/name] is so fun to say in full…and youre right only 3 syllables! im not set on the middle name at all…[name]Noelani[/name] is so long w/[name]Clementine[/name]…and i like the idea of [name]Kale[/name]'a…lovely meaning…and it looks pretty on paper…i do love apostrophes in names…but it has a hard glottal stop when correctly prn. and its kind of awkward for me to say :/…i was thinking of [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kai[/name]…[name]Kai[/name] is short and unisex but it is used more for a boy and i dont know if the meaning is enough for me…so still looking!

LOL i know its so busy out there…not really laid back at all…def more laid back here in [name]Texas[/name] or esp back in [name]Missouri[/name]…im a [name]Cali[/name] girl forever though :)…i love your daughters names by the way…especially the middles…and they never heard of [name]Jocelyn[/name]…wut!

Thanks! I know, I think it’s crazy that people haven’t even heard of it, but then I don’t think I’ve ever met one before she was born. It was my sister’s Cabbage Patch when we were kids but that’s about it!

Are you looking for an Hawaiian middle name? If you want one connected to the sea that is not Hawaiian but sounds like it could be then there is Nami meaning wave.

rollo

I like [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Matilda[/name].

thanks  Nami is pretty but yes the middle name has to be hawaiian…its tradition…im having a hard time because im trying to keep it short and simple since [name]Clementine[/name] and our last name are so long and most hawaiian names just arent short and simple…most names are actually a sentence! my name Kanani meaning beautiful is actually short and chopped off for hawaiian so this is hard!

[name]Hi[/name] again I have googled Hawaiian girl’s names and here are some that I thought were pretty.

Nakine meaning hope
[name]Malia[/name] version of [name]Mary[/name] meaning beloved
[name]Lani[/name] meaning sky
[name]Ola[/name] meaning life
[name]Pele[/name]
[name]Alani[/name] meaning orange tree and this would be great with [name]Clementine[/name] as clementines are a kind of mandarin, although on one site it said precious and awakening.
Kaikala better than [name]Kai[/name] for a beautiful girl meaning sea and sun
Heiki Hawaiian form of [name]Heidi[/name] meaning noble
[name]Ewa[/name] a form of [name]Eva[/name] meaning alive, living
[name]Kani[/name] another pretty one meaning sound
Keiki meaing child
Kona meaning lady
[name]Lani[/name] meaning sky

My pick [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Alani[/name]

rollo

I don’t like the sound of [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Kai[/name].

I like [name]Kale[/name]`a. Other (short) options are
Hoku - star
Nalu - wave
Moana- open ocean
Mahina - moon, or just Hina, a very common woman’s name
[name]Pua[/name] - flower, or child, or the verb to come forth, emerge

I highly suggest checking out www.wehewehe.org. You absolutely can’t trust the standard baby name websites for meaning or even “real” hawaiian words.
