Eidel?

What do you think of the name Eidel?

…wiess. ??

I actually [name]LOVE[/name] this name, especially the meaning. The only hesitation I have with it is pronunciation, I pronounce it ay-dell but I’m afraid people would pronounce it eye-dell (or Idle :frowning: )

I had that same though as [name]Alexa[/name]:
Eye-del or Ay-del

Yes, I thought idle or idol. I google the name and see it as a Yiddish variant for a Hebrew name [name]Adina[/name]. I like the sound of Eidel, it’s like a blend of [name]Ida[/name] and [name]Adele[/name], but idle is unfortunate, idol could be mixed, and edelweiss (I thought of this too) could be mixed depending on how you feel about the Sound of [name]Music[/name] or [name]Austria[/name] more generally. [name]Adina[/name] is pretty, and a lot of the names that come from the same root as the edel (“noble”) in edelweiss are pretty and kind of similar to Eidel and [name]Adina[/name], like [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Alice[/name]. I like all of these but Eidel is probably the most mixed - the sound is pretty, but the connotation “idle” is just kind of a lot. All best!

My first thought too!

Bumping this thread because I am considering this name right now. Any other thoughts on the name Eidel??

I keep singing Edelweiss to myself. It’s very unfamiliar and you will probably encounter a lot of spelling/pronunciation issues (particularly with something like [name]Adele[/name]), but if you have the heritage for it, I’d love to see it used.

I don’t care for it. It looks incomplete to me, and sounds awkward, but I love Eider and have that on my list.

There’s a name that’s fairly popular in [name]Ireland[/name], not Irish, but not recognised on this site. It’s [name]Edel[/name], and pronounced Ee-[name]Dell[/name], not to dissimilar to [name]Adele[/name]. Is this name similar to Eidel?

Sorry, but I thought that first.
Then I thought [name]Billy[/name] Idol.
