Can you give me some pros and cons of Eilonwy?
It’s a Welsh name, but a bit more modern, first used in the 1880s. Later used by Lloyd Alexander for his book series in the 1960s and the movie “The Black Cauldron” released in the 1980s.
Weirdly it hasn’t caught on at all even though I find it quite pretty.
Pronounced ay-LON-wee or eye-LON-wee, both are possible in regional accents but ay-LON-wee seems to be more common. I personally like eye-LON-wee better.
Pros:
Really sweet sound - lyrical and unexpected!
Definitely unusual
Interesting meaning
Would always be an ice breaker when meeting new people
Cons:
Could be lots of spelling and pronunciation issues
Definitely unusual (could be a pro or a con - or a bit of both lol)
For me it’s too unusual - I like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or, most of all, [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], more myself, but it’s interesting for sure and I think something like [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_f]Eilonwy[/name_f] or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Eilonwy[/name_f] would be really pretty. It’s just not my sort of thing, but I’d be super impressed to come across it in real life! It’s just always been one of those names that seemed “too hard” for real life for me.

It’s because [name_m]Black[/name_m] Cauldron had production issues and sold poorly
I pronounce it AY-lon-wee and seem to me pronunciation is no big issue, but spelling certainly is. I find the look of the spelling and sound pretty, though.

Pros: Rare, lyrical, distinctive
Cons: [name_u]Lonnie[/name_u] as a nn?
I love it, but I’m partial to Welsh names and was friends with [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. The spelling and pronuciation aren’t a big deal. I teach high school students and there are lots of kids over the years who have difficult spellings/pronunciations etc. Kids are rarely teased about their names, at least not here where I live.

It does have a meaning and history.
Pros: Unusual, distinctive, ethereal sound, cool literary/Disney reference
Cons: [name_u]Will[/name_u] probably be misspelled and mispronounced frequently, possible “wee” jokes from other kids? (though I could be overthinking it)
