[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!! I have been loving this name recently, oh my gosh it’s so pretty. What are your thoughts? What middle name would you pair with it? And lastly, what spelling do you prefer? [name_f]Eiress[/name_f]Ariss[name_f]Eris[/name_f]
I know that Ariss is more commonly a boys name but I think it’ll suit better on a girl.
[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite spelling is [name_f]Eris[/name_f], like the Greek goddess (though probably not an ideal namesake, I’ll admit). I knew one who wore it well, and I think the sound is quite pretty. [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] strikes me as an alternative spelling of “heiress” and I would be more likely to put the emphasis on the last syllable. I would pronounce Ariss as AHR-iss (ahr rhyming with car). Never heard it on a boy, though I have seen [name_m]Aris[/name_m].
I’d pronounce all 3 differently! To me [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] is eye-ress, Ariss is ah-riss and [name_f]Eris[/name_f] is either eh-riss or ee-riss!
I definitely like [name_f]Eris[/name_f] best – [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] and Ariss look a bit messy to me, visually? And [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] reminds me too much of “heiress”. But [name_f]Eris[/name_f] is a really cool name! On-trend, but unique with its -s ending, and some fun history behind it.
So interesting, I love how you would pronounce each name! For me I see them all as eh-riss so it’s really cool seeing your perspective. Thank you for the feedback!
I like the look of it, and it has something sparkly, mystical and fresh about it at the same time.
In terms of spelling, I’d probably say them slightly differently?
[name_f]Eiress[/name_f] → I’d want to say it as either ‘air-ess’, like [name_f]Heiress[/name_f] but I’d make the beginning softer, or EYE-ress, kind of like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but with a ess sound at the end
Ariss → a-riss (a- like the sound in Apple or bat)
[name_f]Eris[/name_f] → eh-ris (eh- like in Emma or Esther)
So, [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] gives more regal vibes, Ariss gives off both international and mystical feels, [name_f]Eris[/name_f] leans more Greek mythology and poetic
I’ve been obsessed with the name [name_f]Eris[/name_f] ever since I listened to a book with a character by that name. It’s seems so overlooked. I have never come across the spelling [name_f]Eiress[/name_f], but I do like it quite much. I would probably choose [name_f]Eris[/name_f] over [name_f]Eiress[/name_f] as it seems more straightforward in pronunciation.
I don’t particularly like Ariss. The pronunciation does not seem very intuitive to me.
