Elainey

What are your thoughts on Elainey? I know it’s not a real name, but I can’t help but love it. I really dislike [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] is ok but nothing I’d ever use as a given name, and [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] is not my style. I would probably use the nickname [name_u]Laine[/name_u] occasionally. Thanks!

I know someone who pronounces her name essentially the same way (in English at least) and spells it [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]. I like the sound of the name and it would be a nice way to honor an [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] or [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] without using the actual name. It isn’t my style, but I definitely think it could work as a name!

That could work, I agree with the previous poster.

You may also want to consider [name_f]Elena[/name_f] nicknamed Elainey.

You might also like [name_f]Emberly[/name_f]. I think Elainey is pretty cute.

It feels really nicknamey and cutesy to me. If I met a little girl named [name_f]Elena[/name_f] who was called Elainey as a nickname I’d think it was cute, but I can’t picture it as a full name on an adult.

I do like [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] a lot.

[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is a real name… same sound but better look and history

Elainey is very pretty! I prefer the spelling Elainie though.

I have a Greek cousin named [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (eh-[name_m]LENNY[/name_m]) and a friend named Ellanie ([name_f]ELLA[/name_f]-nee- rhymes with [name_f]Melanie[/name_f])- maybe you’d like those names as well?

[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is pronounced more like Eh-lenny.

Elainey would be pronounced Ee-lane-ee.

I do like the spelling [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], but I’ve seen mixed opinions on how it is said. Some say that it can be pronounced as Elainey, but some people are really adamant that it is not said that way. I hate the idea of giving my kid a name that isn’t correctly pronounced. But if it actually can be said that way, I would definitely be up for using that spelling.

I would be saying it with a short e; eh-lane-ee/el-lane-ee.

Sounds like a pet name for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. I’m not a fan.

I still wouldn’t use the Elainey pronunciation with the [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] spelling because it’s still quite different to my ear, but what you use is up to you.

My name ([name_f]Eleni[/name_f]) is always mispronounced as Elainey, so I’m not really a fan ([name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is pronounced Eh-lehn-ee, not Ee-laine-ee like people have Americanized it). Though the nn [name_u]Lane[/name_u] is cute. I know an [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] that goes by [name_u]Lane[/name_u]/[name_u]Laney[/name_u]. I’d probably prefer just [name_u]Lane[/name_u]/[name_u]Laine[/name_u] on its own to Elainey.

Yes and I’ve been trying to figure out the legitimate pronunciations of [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]. I remember reading somewhere that eh-lane-ee would be considered an anglicization of [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]. I just wouldn’t want to go forward with using it and then find out I was misinformed.

I think it’s great, but I agree that you should go with a different spelling because Elainey is clearly the name [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] with a Y on the end.

I love the suggestion of Elainie, which for some reason looks totally legit to me. I also think you could definitely get away with spelling it [name_f]Eleni[/name_f].
