Eleanor nn Leah

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

Would [name_f]Leah[/name_f] (lee-ah) work as a nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?

I’m thinking of changing my nickname as I can’t picture an adult [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] at all. I don’t like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and I don’t think Im an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
I think that [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is pretty and could be a nn. Is it too far from [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?
Thanks,
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] xx

[name_f]Leah[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f],
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] or even [name_f]Annie[/name_f]?

Why not just [name_f]Leah[/name_f] then? It’s a full name in its own right, after all.

FWIW, one of my close friends is a grown-up [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] from [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. She’s successful, kind, and much-loved. It really suits her.

[name_f]Leah[/name_f] would be fine, though a stretch. [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] are some of my favorite [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nicknames.

Adult [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is totally fine, but if you want [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I think it could work.

I think it could work, but I would spell it “[name_f]Lea[/name_f]” because that part is already in the name. Is your name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or is it [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] like your username?

If you want to change it to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but you don’t think that you’re a [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] I wouldn’t use the name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] use [name_f]Leah[/name_f] by itself. It’s a stand alone name.

If you were naming a baby [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] intending to call her [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I would say no. But if that’s your name, sure, why not? I agree with pp that you should spell it [name_f]Lea[/name_f], but even if you add the h, it’s still fine. I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is perfectly fine for an adult, but if you feel you’ve outgrown it, that’s ok. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would be an easier transtion… Or what about [name_f]Elea[/name_f] pronounced ell-ee-uh? It’s pretty, unusual, and makes more sense both from [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

Good luck!

I like the nickname [name_f]Elle[/name_f] for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. But if you want to use [name_f]Lea[/name_f], why not?

I think it’s a little bit of a stretch.
I would automatically think [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], etc.

What about [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]? It’s different. But I feel like that could work.

I’m pretty liberal when it comes to nicknames, but [name_f]Leah[/name_f] for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a bit too much for me.

I know grown up Ellies, and they’re great!
