Eleanor or Elinor?

I prefer [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and my husband prefers [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Which one and why?

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]!

I almost always prefer traditional spelling and had never seen it spelt any other way before Nameberry. Have a very dear loved one named [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] so that is what appeals to me.

Generally [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], however, it depends what names you pair her with (middle and sibling).
For example, looking at your signature, I think [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] & [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] work wonderfully together as [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is so unusual, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] looks almost too classic next to it.
Yet with [name_u]Max[/name_u], I’d choose [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], as [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] looks too unusual next to a classic such as [name_u]Max[/name_u].

I’m having this debate myself lately. I love [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] from Sense and Sensibility and it has a slighter feel to it, more delicate. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is stronger, like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] or of [name_f]Aquitaine[/name_f]. I would probably use [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] for a first name spelling to avoid confusion but [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] as a middle name.

I prefer the classic spelling [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], probably because I’ve always seen the name spelled this way and I think it’s beautiful

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! Definitely prefer the conventional spelling! I just don’t like the look of [name_f]Elinor[/name_f].

I prefer the usual spelling of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. There won’t be confusion over the spelling that way, and also I prefer [name_f]Ellinor[/name_f] to [name_f]Elinor[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] better, but I tend to prefer traditional spellings. It looks more classic, more elegant and regal, and stronger to me. [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] Dashwood and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Tilney are both great [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] references, so there’s one in favour of each spelling

Definitely [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] feels wrong and ‘cheap’ to me.

I much prefer [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]!

Okay, so I get the message: No [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]! Thank you berries, I guess [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] will have to stay on my GP list!
